I had installed a first generation Audio Access MRX at a clients house.

If I were to consider all my options to replace this unit for 5 zones what are the options?

Thank you. My quandry is that both of these options require new training for my programmers, which are fluent in the Landmark system and the little Crestron. But not in the big Crestron, nor the Elan which I agree with you are two solid contenders.

The problem with my existing client is that we want to get in and out fast.

It is almost worth it to replace the MRX with a newer AA unit as I believe it is a 3 conductor with shield (right? or 4?), the Landmark system uses the cat 5 connection. Although my associates say that they can hang Panja touchpanels on the wall using the AA wiring. Is it worth the trouble, or just replace the MRX with a px-4/6?

Thanks Again

Peter

Peter:

Coming up to speed on Simpl can be a challenge, on the other hand, there are a lot of horror stories around with respect to the reliability of the Panja system (your mileage may vary).

Another option you could look at is the Audio Control Director...it's rock solid, brain dead simple to set up, you can T-tap, daisy chain and, depending on the two style of keypad, use the existing wiring. On the downside with the Director, you can't plan on making an money from service calls. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif Here's the link: http://www.audiocontrol.com/multi_room.htm

Thanks.

Yeah reliability is an issue with previously un-satisfied AA customers that give one a second chance. I notice the director claims compatibility with standard keypads, meaning xantech I guess. Is it compatible with the audio access keypads.

I will consider this in my presentation.

On the Landmark , according to my new associates , the problems have subsided enough where they feel that a reliable end-product can now be delivered.

Now for clients that are wired under the original audio access parallel 20 conductor scheme is there any hope of salvaging the wire and using something like the Director by bundling leads together? Or the lack of individual shield within the 3 wire scheme, would be a problem?

The Director uses a three conductor wire to the keypads. I don't know if it current support the audio control or Xantec keypads (Xantech I'd really doubt). I have used this system using engraved keypads from Vantage, LiteTouch and Lutron. BTW, Audio Control sells the keypads from these sources in the event you don't have a dealer relationship with them.

Litetouch would be perfect as the home has it.

Thanks
