I'm just starting to build a new house and I want to wire the house with 10/100 ethernet. My builder only has UStec products in their lineup and they are way too pricey for what you get, so I've decided to do it myself. In addition, I already have a lot of equipment that I'd like to re-use, such as switches, print servers, and a router. I'm looking for manufacturers or suggestions for products I can use on the "built-in" side of the equation, such as ethernet patch panels on the walls etc. If anyone can give me some links or other information, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

www.smarthome.com is another good source for the do-it yourself person. I ordered most of my cable, connectors, wall outlets, etc. when I wired my new home a few yrs ago.

manex_ You are right about the UStec stuff. It is expensive, but one of the best. The stuff is only installed by the trained dealer.
I have used the OpenHouse stuff and I am happy with all of their gear. They are using the Channel Plus stuff. Good Quality and mix of products.
Check out www. siemon.com for some more wall plates, outlets and items. They require minimal tools for installation and are easier to install. They have everything! The only disappointment is the lack of outlet plate colors. Not good for decorators. Their white is off-white compared to the Pass and seymoore plates and outlets.
Have fun and run lots of Cat5e to the Home office for the router with the Print server. -j
