For a few years I have had my sources cabled hdmi to XS and where possible to a Demon AVP-8000 SSP by digital audio and analog audio and video. And it all worked. A few days ago I wanted to do a minor reconfiguring for operational convenience.
My XS, updated 080314, has inputs: 1) Sony DHG-HDD500 DVR, 2) Denon 3930 DVD, 3) Pioneer BDP-320 BluRay, 4) Tivo Premier (Dolby Digital out). Outputs are: HDMI 1 Sony Ruby PJ, HDMI 2 nothing, until three days ago co-ax out nothing. At that time I connected co-ax out to a unused input on the AVP.
Based on Section 6 of the XS Owner's Manual I changed the audio configuration from its defaults to:
Always, USER1 EDID, PCM 2Ch 44.1Khz Y, PCM 2Ch 48Khz tried both N and Y, PCM 5.1Ch 44.1Khz tried both N and Y, and DD 5.1Ch Y.
HDMI 1 Off, HDMI 2 Off, SPDIF On norm
I cycled power on the tivo, XS, and AVP. Tests were done over two evenings.
When I select XS input 4 the AVP which used to do multi-channel from the optical digital audio of the tivo now has no indication of connection. Tivo forums do not help.
When I select the input on the AVP where the co-ax from the XS is connected I get connection and sync indication but no sound when the source is powered up. If the source is powered down I lose these indications. For tests I used XS inputs 1 and 4 with identical results.
I have searched regarding audio problems with tivo and Lumagen. Appallingly I could not find a simple authoritative statement of how the tivo audio output works. I thought I understood the XS processing but apparently not as the same problem exists on two inputs. I do not know where to go from here except total retreat.
Addendum: Just played a CD on input 2. Music from DVD player through both analog out and digital to AVP. Nothing from XS out.
