I'd like to know what Kurtis Bahr thinks about the Pioneer HLD-X0 ?

A friend of mine sold his X0 to someone in the States that had this

player adjusted at Kurtis.

afaik, Kurtis never saw a HLD-X0 before.

I know this is an old thread, but interestingly a guy has done a software solution that captures the RF signal and decodes the image via software. Very neat!

Yeah, cool project. I'll have to study it myself.

There was also a group in Germany that did a similar project software decoding the RF from the analog Betacam (not Betamax) VTR format. The analog version of Sony Betacam was a very popular broadcast format in Europe through the 1980s and 90s so there is a lot of legacy material to archive to digital. These guys however had deeper pockets to draw from for the research. I was featured in a SMPTE journal but I don't know if they ever succeeded in commercial application.

What would anyone suggest for working with the xbr960? Ever since getting one LD has looked pretty awful. VE doesn't really work well either. Depending on the disc quality I get different results doing straight composite or through the Dmr-es25 component out for its comb filter. The 25s HDMI out does some upscaling but doesn't look very good.
My player is a cld-d702 with the dvl-700 as backup (awful built in DNR etc, so I just use it to check ac3.)
