We have some VCR tapes of family events that were converted from a film projector that are about 19 or 20 years old. Before the tapes age and deteriorate too much I want to convert them to DVD. I was thinking about just taking them to a place to do it for me but I heard that can also be expensive if your doing a couple. A DVD burner/VCR combo is another option but they are well over $100 and I don't think I can edit them so I am leaning to computer software that will allow me to play a VCR tape on my computer and then edit it/save file/burn to a disc. The main thing I want to try editing is music put in by the people who converted it to a VCR if that is possible and maybe get out some static.
Does anybody recommended any software to do this? I don't really know anything about this software so I am going in it pretty blind. I don't want to pay much for the software as I am looking to save but want software that is pretty good. The computer is a little older running XP but it has a DVD burner.
