I thought Solid Signal used to be forum sponsors, but maybe that's changed.

I "wasted" a few $'s on shipping, never realized I work just a few miles from these guys!

Right now it's not the 'versions'...it's all about the firmware/software update that you have to send in for...other than that, everything is the same..........

PS In my opinion, I don't think there will be any difference in the 'real world'.....unless you have more video processors that do 4 4 4

Got it. It was working fine until I went into my Anthem settings menu to adjust my subs then when I exited I had a purple screen. I had to turn off my Oppo , Anthem, and TV. Picture was ok when I turned them all back on.

Got mine yesterday. After messing about (thanks to a crappy hdmi cable) I watched about an hour of Avatar on Blu-ray. Big difference in sharpness. Will continue to play around but so far and excellent piece of equipment.

My guess too. Had to replace one a few weeks ago. Hadn't touch the connections for a long time and the HDMI cable just seemed to give up. Screen looked like a starry night.

I am using Blue Jeans cables as well, with no issues.  Given that you had an earlier problem with the purple screen, there may be something else going on.

Maybe a setting among the devices.....

Anyhoo, first impressions:

Definitely a difference. More so in Blu Ray than in DirecTv. After fiddling with it I left it at 50% HD for a happy medium. Gonna live with it a few days for a final verdict.

What effectively is the difference between Gaming at 40% and HD at 40%?

There is some difference to do with which areas of the picture are effected I believe. There may be a more detailed explanation elsewhere on this thread, but it's hard to search as it's multiple terms. Basically HD should be less intrusive in terms of side effects.

Zooming: Been there, done that, bought the lens...

I have my Fios, and 2 blu ray players going into Monoprice HDMI switcher..then to Darbee input and out to TV..for my projector ,I just unplug the tv lead from the Darbee out and plug in my Projector's hdmi. I guess a splitter after the Darbee would be ok and easier.

That can not be answered in words to make any sense. Just look at a paused picture, especially a facial close up and you will see the difference. Ditto full pop.

In the two professional reviews that I have read (Gary Reber's in Widescreen Review and Kris Derring in Home Theater Mag), there is no mention of what is going on behind the scenes with the three modes.  Both reviewers opine that Game Mode seems to work best with gaming sources (as expected), and that HD Mode provides the most pleasing result.  Most feedback on this thread indicates that what mode is used is a matter of taste.

From earlier posts:

Depth cues can be interpreted as artifacts. HD mode provides the hardest clamps on depth cue "artifacts" and is the result of 18 months of feedback from other companies. Gaming mode was created by releasing some of the clamps we use in Hi Def mode. For CGI and gaming content, the image is often clean and can take more depth information. Gamers also want the depth cues as they indicate that it helps them perform and win more.

Use judicious amounts of DVP, Full Pop in low 30-60 settings or Hi Def or Gaming Mode 40-80. Hi Def and Gaming Modes you have noise/artifact detectors engaged and you will have a wide range of settings to play with, or set and forget just below a level that you feel causes some artifacts to creep through.

Hope this helps...

GAMING MODE is the brother of HD MODE. POP MODE is the cousin of GAME AND HD MODE.....that's how Mr. Darbee puts it.....

Are Gaming Mode and HD Mode brother and sister? And I'm wondering about the cousin.

I'm asking because putting two Darbees in series, as some apparently are doing, might be incestuous and therefore illegal.

Or...you might be a Redneck if you have two Darbees in series.

ADVANCED MODE

Now that we have that part of the modes figured out, is anyone willing to admit to being brave/anal enough for advanced mode -> fine, where you can make adjustments in 1% increments?

Frankly, 5% is precise enough for me.
