I have a Yamaha z7 which has the ABT 2010 chip in it. Would I benefit from a standalone VP? (I ordered a darblet but that's irrelevant) I'm wondering if a DVDO or lumagen would benefit me

I think you will benefit a little from a standalone VP,which can help you to improve your skill in that field!

I think it depends on what you want it for. If your z7 does upsacaling, and you're satisfied with the results, then it doesn't make sense to suppliment it. The Lumagem folks are rightfully proud of their VP. If you want it for something it does that you don't have right now, then it makes sense to buy it. It does every trick in the book. You will own it until 4k comes around. It won't become obsolete soon, if ever.

The Lumagen or DVDO Duo might offer a benefit, if you need/want CMS (Color Management System) or specific output fine tuning options not available in the Yamaha.

FWIW, both the of the current DVDO units (Duo and Edge) use the same ABT 2010 chip so the de-interlacing/scaling performance will be similar, if not identical, to the Yamaha.
