I have an older projector that falls flat on its face with a Blu-ray player, I need to scale it down to vga/svga

Right now the HDMI out on the player is connected to a HDMI to RGB adapter. When I first turn the player on, the projector resolves the splash screen just fine, but once it gets to the menu it falls on it's face. Any ideas?

You should be able to force the player's output resolution to 480p, no matter what.

I would - temporarily - connect the player for a TV to see if the player keeps the 480p resolution all the time, or it defaults back to 1080i/p at some point. If it does - for whatever reason - you're likely better off with a different player than using an external video processor for downscaling.
