REC2020 is a lot of larger than DCI P3, do you think that consumer display companies (they interested mainly for slim TV's/A++ power/web features) that will start to produce instantly consumer displays that can reproduce 100% of the REC2020 colors?

Note the only display right now at large inch, (42 inch) that can reproduce DCI P3 100% is the Dolby at 55.000$, and there only a few projectors with low cost from 30.000$ than can do DCI P3 100%.

I believe REC2020 will stay at papers since the whole industry is mastering the movies for cinema @ DCI P3, it's easier to see DCI P3 Stuff at home than from REC2020.

I believe for companies will stay to REC709 for 4K to keep compatibility for consumer 4K TV's that can't do REC2020, and for the all other 1080p displays.

The problem is that Rec.2020 specifies far more about the UHD signal than just the color space. Compared to 709, 2020 specifies higher resolutions (both 3840x2160 and 7860x4320), higher frame rates (120Hz, in addition to 60/50/30/24), no interlaced is allowed, different primaries, higher bit-depths and a new transfer function that accounts for them, and different signal characteristics. If the industry decides not to use part of all of these standards, they'll have to re-write a new set, but broadcasters and content distributors simply can't pick and choose which part of standards they want to adhere to and which they don't. Maybe 2020 won't be it, but I'm not aware of anything else out there that attempts to define UHD standards, and unless that happens, manufacturers will have to get on board with what I find to be a lot of long-overdue changes.

Do you know any details on the 3D comb filter? Is it any better than TI TVP5160 by any chance? Does it have any user adjustments?

If the 3D comb filter is half decent, I can finally retire my 2 Crystalio II Vps

Hi, It's a better idea to ask this question to Lumagen's Forum, for quicker answer. smile.gif

I did ask it to the support page. It is analog devices adv7800 encoder chip which is also found on dvdo duo and dvdo edge. Not much to write home about if it is implemented the same way as dvdo units.

I will go with the hdmi only units and use my crystalio 2 for analog sources.

the trend seems to be increasing the cube size (from 5^3 to 9^3 to 17^3), although it seems that every time it is limited by FPGA size.
For 21xx, is 17^3 the maximum for this FPGA already, or there is room for more when the next generation comes out?

We have not decided if we would have a larger CMS 3D LUT in a future unit.

That said, I think 17x17x17 will provide exceptional results, and results essentially indistinguishable to humans verses a 33x33x33 matrix. Probably light a fie with this comment, but I just don't see a need for a larger matrix for display calibration.

Note: For video production, a larger matrix can make sense.

Is it possible to have a dynamic output? Like 1080p24 in 1080p24 out, 480i in 480p out, 480ifilm in 1080p24 out etc..
Or is it fixed output only?

You can set the desired output resolution as a function of the input resolution. It is very flexible that way, though I'm not sure if it can easily/automatically distinguish 480i video from 480i film.

Lumagen Radiance 21XX Series (2123, 2124, 2143, 2144) New 050814 Firmware Update

Release Notes

Bugfix for couple issues with using configuration files from other units.

Adds fan speed control options under "Other" on menu.

Adds S-Video selection type for inputs 9 and 10 on 2124/2144 (Svideo uses component Green input for Y and component Blue input for C).

Output trigger option now available if purchased using this firmware.

Bugfix for certain combination of setting and sources that can give an occasional momentary screen tear in video.

Added an option in menu under Input: HDMI Setup: Aspect Setup called Aspect Set which enables setting the same input aspect across src resolutions for the current memory for remote/rs232 input aspect commands. This is intended for control systems that know the source aspect but may set the aspect before the source changes modes.

Update time ~3 minutes @57k from previous firmware.

How does it deal with noise reduction? How are the controls? Does it have one control i.e low, mid, high for noise reduction? Or have individual selection for temporal, spatial, mosquito, bar?

The manual is available to download from their site.

It has spacial/temporal reduction, block noise and mosquito noise reducitons..sections. All with scale from 0 to 30 i think...

Hi, there is a typing error to your question, Lumagen Radiance 2141 doesn't exist as a model.

If the question is difference between 2041 and 2143...the answer is

2143 has 4 more HDMI inputs
2143 can output 4K at 24/25/30/50/60Hz while 2041 is limited to 4K at 24/25/30
2143 will soon have 17x17x17 LUT capabaility while 2041 is only 9x9x9
2041 has co-axial digital audio output and 2143 does not.
