HDR to SDR stand alone box?

I'm looking for a straight HDR to SDR converter box that would have a level adjustment slider like found on the Panasonic UB900.

I ask because I'd like to extract the BT2020 colorspace on Netflix and video games without it looking so flat and dim on my SDR projector. It seems the only correct way I've seen HDR to SDR is when playing a disc on these players, but never with the baked in apps.

The Nvidia Shield does a great job of passing the BT2020 with netflix, but it doesn't convert the HDR to SDR correctly. Same goes for the PS4 when playing games.

I think the only box that can probably do that in one unit is a Lumagen Pro ($$$$)

I am currently rigging up something similar using an older Lumagen 2143 processor and the HDFURY linker. The HDFURY Linker tricks the player into outputting the BT2020 HDR signal, optionally downscaling it if it is 4K, and a 3DLUT created using Lightspace maps the BT2020 onto the measured capabilities of the projector with some fudging from the various sliders within Lightspace. You can create different 3DLUTs for different HDR looks. This is merely $$$ (!), but it is only a 1080p solution really (input and output could be 4K, but it goes down to 1080p for processing).

If you need to do this in 4K then I think the Lumagen Pro is really it.

With the pricing on those units I may as well get a new projector. There must be something out there cheaper since its built into the 4K disc players.

Sure. If you find it let us know!
Is your projector 4K or 1080p?

Remember, disc players are doing it for disc only and not for Netflix and others streaming apps.
And players can do it because they handle the content initially in the first place so that still doesn't solve the problem of doing it on any stream.
Affordable solution will arrive only next year, may be end of next year only.
