MARSEILLE MCABLE (internal processor)

To help keep the darbee thread focused on their products and to help attract members specifically interested in this new company/product, I've started a separate thread.

I'll also transfer over the posts from the Darbee thread too.

Not able to make the transfer of the posts (at this time). @sharok , if you don't mind getting the discussion started with (cutting or pasting your posts from the darbee thread?) your thoughts on the product being an owner?

Thanks!

Subscribed. Thanks for starting the thread (since I don't own one yet, I didn't think I should be the OP).
I should have my silver edition from eBay by this weekend. HCFR measurements to follow!

I'm interested in how the mcable plays with the Darbee and the differences between the various generations of product (besides the cost)

The Cinema Edition is the third generation (the latest one) and it is black. You need to check the "marseilleinc.com" before you make a purchase. They all do the same thing, but the latest release is bug free. The older ones are cheaper but you may encounter a bug. The latest generation (third generation) was released on July first. That is the one I was waiting for and purchased.

I talked to the company's president a few months ago and asked him about the differences and the improvements they made to the third generation. One of the upgrades he pointed out was that a few bugs were fixed in the new gen. He did not elaborate was the bugs were and I did not ask him about the bugs since I was planning on buying an upgraded one. Not every user had a problem with the older generation. There were just some cases. You can read the reviews in amazon.com regarding the older gens.

Thanks for posting your experience with the Marseille mCable + Darbee. After I read it I bought the previous generation mCable and it's definitely a noticeable improvement. The noise reduction that it applies is very effective while keeping the detail in the picture. It also allowed me to up the darbee effect a little bit now that some of source issues are cleared up and are much less distracting.

One weird thing that happened in my setup after adding the mCable is that the black level of the source was raised a hair. I just dropped the black level (brightness) on my tv from 45 to 44 and everything was back to normal. Two Samsung TVs. KS9800 and LNB630 (2008 model).

For me, the most beneficial features are the noise reduction and edge repair/smoothing. Without the mcable I used to run the Darbee at 40% but now I've upped to 60%. I kept it at 40% because I felt the video noise more noticeable than I cared to live with at higher levels. Now I don't go higher 60% because past that the Darbee effect is too much for my tastes but the video noise is no longer the issue.

I got one for my 1080p tv as well and the same improvements are noticeable on that one too. This tv does not have a Darbee attached to it though.

Cable tv benefits the most in my opinion. I have my cable box set to output 1080i but I have my receiver deinterlace and output it as 1080p in order for the mcable to do its picture enhancements.

I also have the mcable after the Darbee. To be honest it is mainly out of convenience due to my setup but I do like the idea of the Darbee getting the original pixels instead of the mcable. Also, I suppose if anyone wants to use the mcable to upscale to 4k then it would have to be after the Darbee processor. It does only upscale to 4K/24 so for most people cable tv will 1080p at best anyway.

By the way, the 2017 mCables are only available direct from Marseille.

And starting from this model, Marseille will be selling directly to consumers which enables us to implement a much tighter quality control, making sure every mCable you purchase is genuine, non-refurbished (if not stated as so) and has a consistent, high quality support from us.

Cost was the only reason. I wasn't sure it was going to work so I figured I'd try the older one. I have no doubt that the new one is better and may very well be worth the premium but it just came down to cost. I'm happy with my purchase. If you are unsure which one the get I suppose the best thing to do is get both and keep the one that works best for you.

Thanks.
Reluctant to invest a lot more in 1080P tech. Hoping that DLP will transition to 4K (with powered controls) soon. I will probably follow your lead and try the $30 model and see what happens.
I am curious to see if anybody has tried both mcable models (with the Darbee) and if they can articulate the differences...
It's a challenge to get up to our cathedral ceiling mount PJ (low Earth orbit). When the parts come in, I'll track down the 12 ft ladder and give it a go. Will post back with results, if any.

To be clear, the McCable's assist sets that are 1080P or less. If one is happy with the upscaling of their 4K tv/pj, there is no need for the McCable. Correct?

It also performs other picture enhancements in addition to upscaling. Here is a link with some information:

Thanks. Took a look at the 'Blu-ray' video. Whats the story with the USB connection? Is this necessary?

It powers the processor in the cable.
I guess if you just want an expensive HDMI cable, you don't need to plug it in.

Does this cable do anything for compression artifacts and macroblocking of cable TV?

When we upgraded to a 65" 4K TV a while back the first thing we noticed was how apparent the issues became from the compressed cable tv signal. Whether it's simply the larger size (previous TV was 42"), the upscaling of the signal to 4K, or the switch from plasma to LED, the blockiness is very noticeable from our viewing distance. I've been wondering for a while if there is anything I can do to improve the PQ. It's not as much of an issue with streaming services, but with cable (which is most of our TV watching) it can be quite distracting.

Already have several of those

However, looks like my pj has a place for USB. Would the cinema edition pass UHD 4K disc signals, and improve the image if the unit is only 4K not HDR

It does reduce compression artifacts and macroblocking of cable TV and I think it does a pretty good job. It only enhances progressive scan sources so if your cable box is set to 1080i then it will just pass the picture to the TV.

I don't think it enhances any 4K source. This link has a chart on what sources it enhances and upscales:
http://www.marseilleinc.com/content/..._Datasheet.pdf

Here's another link that describes the enhancements the cable provides:

Yeah, that looks right. They also have a gaming mCable that is black with a red ring. It adds anti-aliasing to your video games. A few reviews I've come across say that it is effective. I considered getting that one but I was told it does not "perform optimally for videos that are 60fps" by their product support. However, they did tell me that they were designing a product that had both the gaming and cinema enhancements. Who knows when that will be released though...

Confusing? Yes. Here is the correspondence I got.

First from customer support:

Quote:
The latest version (2017) is black with orange strip (orange m).
We also have a gaming version which is also black with a red strip (Red m)

Best Regards,

Al
Second from technical support:

Quote:
Thank you for your interest in mCable!

The latest version of mCable Cinema Editon has black surface and an orange 'm'-shaped stripe across the surface. Please see the attached picture.

The only place that you can purchase this version right now is on our website http://www.marseilleinc.com/marseill...inema-edition/.

Please also let me know where you see a black stripe version. I do not recall we have such a product but I could be wrong. Products that are selling on Amazon or other online stores (which might have silver surface or gold surface) are earlier versions and have been discontinued. We may start selling the latest versions on Amazon on a later time.

I sincerely hope you will give mCable a try and please let me know if you have any other questions.

Emily
