Just tried the box with my HTPC using a old ATI Radeon 9500 for 2 hours, but fail! Only 720x480 gave a picture. 800x600 and 1024x768 had no picture. 1280x720 and 1920x1080i cause the ON led blinking without any output! Tried the latest Cat6.1 driver without success.

Anyone has it working with a HTPC?

Li On

Works great with my HDMI connection. It all depends on the signal going in.
Get one at Circuit City you have 30 days to take it back. You can really see
a deference!

I have one although I'm not using it, never bothered to return it either, but, it's a good idea but it definitely needs more flexibility, flexibility that the user can configure.

In addition to my responsibilities at DigiVision I am an avid dirt-bike enthusiast (Honda CRF450R, for you other riders), and my family typically spends as many weekends in the SoCal deserts as possible during the riding season. As luck would have it, I suffered a fairly significant knee injury in January (severed ACL), with ensuing surgery being completed in late February. In fact today is my first day back in the office in quite some time.

To be brutally honest, I am buried in other issues at the moment. If you have any RazorVision-related technical questions (other than "does your knee hurt?", please), post them here and I'll get to them as soon as time permits, or possibly hand them off to other DV personnel.

Regards,
Randy

You don't need to apologize. Accidents happen all the time and surgery is definitely a forgivable reason. If you still want my help I will offer all of my resources to you (different dvd players, HDTVS, scalers, and PJs).

Forgot to report that the RazorVision does work on a friend's HTPC setup. Also a good old ATI Radeon 9500 to a Sony G70 CRT projector in 1280x720.

The result was a bit disappointing. Even at the lightest enhancing level, the effect was too strong and unacceptable in our opinion. The split screen effect was funny though!

Hi Li-On,

Just got one last night and I'm going to start doing some testing. On low Bitrate content, I noticed it makes the compression artifacts much more pronounced. On high bitrate content I'm noticing richer colors and better contrast.

I'm holding off from deciding on it until I do more extensive tests..

Cheers,

Hi Ofer!
Try it in off mode also. Even in off mode it does some subtle enhancement & is not completely out of the chain.

I need a lot more time with it, it's clearly a completely different animal than what we usually see in the forum. It reminds me of the mosquito in that it took me a long time to wrap my head around it and come to a conclusion of whether I like what it does to the image or not...

I have been asked by a few people now. Does the Belkin RazorVision Processor work with the DVDO Iscan VP30? Particulary a VP30 with the newer 1.03 firmware?

Greetings,

I'm not as high tech as you folks. I read about the RazorVision while getting some info on my Belkin FM transmitter. I then started Googling for reviews and was disappointed by the lack thereof until about the 3rd or 4th Google Page when I found this forum.

I'm running a DirecTV HD-DVR 250 (Hughes) direct to a SONY WEGA KDF70XBR950 via HDMI to DVI. I have a DENON AVR 5800 which does not have AVI or HDMI. I run my Pioneer DV-59AVi ELITE direct to the TV via component cables so I will not see any benefit. I got tired of using a buggy Geffen Switcher that allowed me to utilize the HDMI in the DVD and HD-DVR. Until I upgrade to the DENON AVR 4806 they will continue to run to the TV separately. Therefore, I will not be able to experiment with any recorded movies other than those on the TIVO.

I've set my TV picture using the SpyderTV Colorimeter.

I will probably try the RazorVision. Though, from your comments, I am not convinced of its worth or technical abilities but I am convinced of its capabilities. I have read all 7 pages of the posts and what I found most helpful is that...maybe...probably...hopefully...Belkin will come up with a software and/or firmware upgrade for tweaking the settings. Otherwise, what a pity to find that your only choices for settings are "Off" and "Low". If I do not detect a favorable improvement I will return the unit immediately since I would not be inclined to believe that the software to tweak the variability settings would be forthcoming in the near future.

I'll post my very unscientific, non-technical and unashamedly bias opinion(s) once I have experimented with the unit.

I purchased the RazorVision at Circuit City last night. There was no dosplay set up on one of their TVs and the salesman had no idea what the unit did other than the fact that it was an HDMI to DVI connector. I hooked it up after I got home. I tried all the settings on Over the Air HD, HD via satellite and normal programming via satellite. My receiver is set to output 720p.

After about an hour of changing the settings and running up and down the channels I disconnected the unit and this morning I returned it.

I can see what the capacity can be with the unit to give a 3D feel to the broadcast. However, without the ability to tweak the settings the video clarity and/or quality did not approximate viewing without the RazorVision. Pity. In fact the quality was quite bad and very evident. Additionally, even at the lowest setting there seemed to be an almost dust like trail in anything that was moving.

I have no way of quaranteeing that even if I could access the settings with software and tweak it via the USB that it would make a big enough difference to warrant the expense.

I think that it is a hit and miss, depending on the HDTV you are using and your
sourse . On my Panny 50 on DTV and over the air are very good. I go HDMI to HDMI and it looks real good and my DCable. I am also using it in the OR room
to visualize tumors and it does look better.

I still like using my razorvision for sports in HD. For movies I turn it off. And since I have a 35 foot HDMI cable I do use it for HDMI EXTENDER purposes. After doing several comparisons with and without the razorvision I have not seen any added noise while I have it in pass thru mode...

I'm not sure if it's the least expensive HDMI extender on the market, though...

No, I agree it's not. But it is a real cool option to have when the NFL or MLB games are on. It just adds an extra 3D like appearence to the grass and players jerseys. And with my setup, it is real easy to turn on (as easy as hitting the easy button).

And another thing, the Ultralink and Gefen Extenders I tried did not work. To much HDMI compatibility problems. Either that or because they did not plug in. Either way, the Razorvision is ideal for me in my setup...

I recently tried out this gadget, with mixed results.

It was horrible with a 61" Pioneer plasma. Even at the low setting whites were completely blown out, especially noticable on white jerseys worn by basketball teams. I also noticed a lot of false contouring on faces, giving them a claymation look. Any programming that was originally on film was unwatchable because the grain accentuation made the image look like it was a mosaic.

However, I was much happier watching "Memoirs of a Geisha" on a Optoma H78 front projector via a Sony upconverting DVD player. The image looked more HD than DVD. While whites were brighter, detail was maintained. Many of the facial close-ups were of actresses in Geisha makeup, so it was hard to see if false contouring was a problem, though I saw nothing obvious. It did not accenuate the grain of the film to an objectionable degree.

Does anyone know if (and when) Belkin intends to create some software to allow fine tuning of the effect via the USB port.

MIKE

Good question Q. I am hoping for an update for 1080p. I only use the Razorvision for sports now. I do like using the unit for a HDMI extender (while it is in standby mode). I would love it or an updated version to do 1080p though... Here's to wishful thinking... :)
