Assuming you sell your used in very good condition wireless headphones second-hand, would you reduce your price if you were told by someone who's interested that there's new model out there and mine is now outdate implying selling to him for reduced price? Let's add to this remaining half of warranty period is still valid for it.
I mean if there's new model and while yours is outdated and discountinued by manufacturer, would that be reason to dictate price? I meant that even outdated good stuff has demand and outdated is not always subpar.
Yeah, model updates will push your current model down in price because the new model is perceived as an upgrade (diminishing your value).
Best way to do it is to compare pricing on amazon used market/ebay/head-fi.org classifieds/craigslist.
That will give you a price point comparison that you can justify with your buyers (if they're trying to lowball you or give you a reason why you should sell it at a reduced price)
I believe it is a reasonable request to have the headphones be reduced in price. If the price was close to that of the new model, there would not be much incentive to buy your used pair over the newer model since he/she can get it at a similar price.
In the end it is up to you to decide whether it is a fair deal. You can always fish around the classifieds for a buyer that is willing to pay the price you want for the headphones.
The only reason to not drop the price is if the older model has a feature not in the newer one, and that feature can be made to appear important.
For example, if the older model supports say, optical in, while the newer one doesn't have digital in, to some people that can be important. In which case you need to point it out. Or it can be switching from AA rechargeable batteries to built in lithium ion ones which may have an effect if the buyer likes to listen for long periods or forgets to put the headphones on charge. (Seller hint- do research, if you let your buyers do the research, you let them drive the price. But if you do some of the research yourself you can educate yourself in case the newer model is not as good.)
Remember, new models are not always better, but people believe they are. Make sure you see if the newer unit is an upgrade or if they dropped some potentially valuable feature.
You dont need to sell it to the buyer who is saying it is outdated. If they are worth that much, then they will sell. If there is no demand for them at that price, and you need the money, then I would reduce the price or get it more exposure (craigslist, ebay, facebook, etc..).
Your headphones are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.
