Has anyone out there who owns a Western Digital "WD TV" figured out how to make it display cover art for .AVI's ?

They keep touting it as a great feature, but I've tried many different ways.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I know you're new, but you should post this in the already established WDTV master thread here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1080840 . Good luck.

I know I'm new too, but I've been following that original post, which is now 15 pages long.

Several people have asked the same question within that post.

I just didn't want the question to get lost in the shuffle.

Well...is cover art embedded in your file? Or does WDTV use a db?

Appendix p. 69 of the manual lists thumbnail support. AVI is not one of the video formats which supports thumbs. The only luck I have had is importing mpeg4s into iTunes and adding cover art there. This will show on the WD TV HD. Hopefully they will come up with a solution for AVIs and MKVs.

Thanks bp.

I guess all I can do is hope they include the ability to show JPGs as thumbnails in a future firmware update.

I have taken the time to get all the cover art and name it the same as the AVIs.

Here's the awesome site I used, in case it can be of value to anyone else.

In other players I've been able to just put the .avi/.mkv into a folder, and then put folder.jpg in there with it and then see the higher level folders with the cover art. It seems this doesn't work for WDTV. Anyone figure out a way around this yet?

Hi chrislemay,

I asked a friend of mine who's a developer to write an app that looks at all the movies in a folder then creates the movie art with the same file name jpg's, for my WD Media player.

He successfully created it and it works like a charm , you can find it here, hope this helps:
