Please make it a feature so that you can display more than 2 rows of 6. There's space for at least one more row

and add some readability to .txt or .nfo files, so we can read info about what you're watching

keep up the good work

I found a bug with the latest firmware. When you have hard drives hooked up via USB hub. It sorts the Hard drives by Size and not alphabetical. Fix Please.

has someone reported this as a bug? the counter for the last page is incorrect when the number of items in the last page does not have the pointer of the previous page.

The first oscilloscope screen.
The output signal was taken directly from the WD TV analog output.

WD TV tries to replay an audio file (.wav). The 1Khz test tone is at 0dB full scale.

This is the second screen shot.

The signal was taken from an external D/A converter .
WD TV supplies the digital signal, i.e. the converter's digital input was directly connected to the WD TV digital (toslink) output.

As you can clearly see from the previous two shots, my WD TV failed to reproduce properly a full scale audio signal that has been recorded at 0dB (full scale).

Both the analog and the digital outputs are affected by that replay gain issue.

What about your WD TV , does it behave the same way ?

P.S I performed the same test with a similar media player of a different brand. The waveform in that case was perfect (no clipping).

Assuming you have an amp decoding the bitstream I can't see how it can.

If however the WD TV if decoding the DD track and outputting as 2CH PCM (output set to "stereo" rather than "digital") then I guess this issue could exist.

HI,

To WD Team - BUG in 1.02.04:

1. Settings->Photos->Photo scaling - "Keep as original" doesn't work. WD displays photos ALWAYS as "Fit to screen"

2. Settings->Audio Video - NTSC/PAL switch doesn't work

Best regards,

Please say if you believe that an external srt file that has overlapping on lines 112-113 can cause problem on displaying ok lines for example 1 to 20!

And if one other file with NO error at all (reported by subtitle workshop), is faulty because ONLY WDTV (ONLY prereleases) can't display the subs in time and for the duration that the str file very simply declares!

Some people here have big problem to read and understand what they read!!! Maybe that's the reason they don't care about subs...

I would have to investigate that srt to get to a conclusion; an error on a later line is surely not the cause, but there may be a cause on the file (or not, and then it's the wdtv's fault).

Could this be something to do with your tv, not wanting to go to a tv system it does not support? I can do it with this firmware - although NTSC looks (of course) crappy on my PAL tv.

This is not a bug.

This only works if you use COMPOSITE output.

And i repeat:

(Some lines from a external srt file (a simple text format file as you can all see, each line says when it starts , when it stops and then the text that should be on screen.
With blue color i give the duration that file says the line has to be on screen and with red is the time that WDTV prereleases have the subs on screen)

00:02:25,244 --> 00:02:29,040 about 4 sec 0.1sec
- Δεν ξέρω τι είπα.
- Το είπες. Ξέρεις ότι το είπες.

00:02:29,075 --> 00:02:31,257 about 2 sec 0.1sec
Δεν ξέρω τι είπα,αλλά δεν

00:02:31,292 --> 00:02:33,252 about 2 sec 0.1sec
Φυσικά το εννοούσες. Πάντα εννοείς

15
00:02:33,294 --> 00:02:35,421 about 2 sec0.1sec
Μερικές φορές δεν εννοώ τίποτα

Δεν υπάρχει τίποτα. Υπάρχει πάντα

17
00:02:37,340 --> 00:02:40,384 about 3 sec 0.1sec
Δεν εννοώ ότι ότι λέω δεν είναι τίποτα,
απλά τα λέω έτσι για χάρη του λόγου.

18
00:02:40,419 --> 00:02:43,387 about 3 sec 0.1sec
Το να λες κάτι για χάρη του λόγου είναι
ένας τρόπος να ξεφύγεις,

19
00:02:43,422 --> 00:02:46,140 about 2.5 sec 0.1sec
αλλά ξέρεις τι λες κάθε φορά
που το λες.

This file is working ok on VLC, MKPLAYER, and generally on all pc media players, also it plays ok on official WD 1.01.02! Only prereleases gives the red color duration!
Some people here says that it is sub file problem! Believe them! Also the earth is stood still!

relax, jsimeo, no need to get all worked up. I never said the problem *was* on the srt file, only that it *might* have been.

I'm embedding one minute of your paranoid park srt (the fixed one, of course, the one after subtitle workshop) onto a video i have - it's not paranoid park, but it doesn't matter, it's a video behind it.

I'm going to see the video and the embedded subs will obviously appear the correct time - at the same time, i'll have the srt loaded to compare.

On the other hand, i've placed english text on a copy of that 1 minute portion of your srt file and it *seemed* to appear the correct amount of time. This i will also compare with the embedded ones. Should this be the case, then the bug is real, but apparently only on some character encodings, like greek.

Will report back in a couple of minutes.

I'm not talking about you, i know you said "it might be" but some took this phrase of you and without taking in mind my reply said :

"This is confirming what i said, some users have broken subs and accuse the prereleases" some other said even worse.

Ok, i think i've figured it out - it seems to be connected to the additional character encoding one chooses on the wdtv.

Western Europe:

greek text srt - perfect synch, full duration, lovely.
english text srt - perfect synch, full duration, lovely.

Greek :

greek text srt - later synch, smallest duration, barely readable, a disgrace.
english text srt - perfect synch, full duration, lovely.

Eastern Europe (windows1250 and iso):

greek text srt - later synch, small duration, not too readable, a disgrace.
english text srt - perfect synch, full duration, lovely.

i'm going to film this and post it on youtube, so that it can become obvious to everyone.

You were right, and i was right - we were just using different additional character encoding and that's why you saw a bug and i didn't.

My answer on your "might be" file's problem 3 days ago:

MPC and other media players may be more tolerant when it comes to handling faulty subtitles, so the problems are not obvious there.

Maybe is some guys aim to defend a product, a company etc (i dont care for the reason of this), but they should do this without offend others!

About the BLACK LEVELS!

Some reported that the 1.02.04 pre has problem with black levels!

An hour ago flashed again the 1.02.04 to check that the "flashing subs" problem is not there on other character encodings. Yes, wicker_man is right, only on Greek subtitles this bug is present!
So i had the opportunity to check the black levels. I always had black levels not so good with WDTV, so i had to check what about 1.02.04

I connected HDTV to my 22' pc monitor through HDMI to have same settings and same screen! Pc is connected through DVI

I watched some part from "Dark city" and then gone back to 1.01.02 (this is the only FW working ok for someone to watch files with Greek subs).
I watched the same part and it was identical!
Then i watched this part on pc. Very big difference! On pc i could see both sides of the main character's face and the lower part of the costume of the male doll (point 10m00s to 10m20s) that on WDTV (both 1.01.02 and 1.02.04) one side of face and male doll's lower part are invisible and lost in the blacks!

So this problem seems to be on all FWs...

Look who is talking. I'm sorry, but since I don't speak greek, how the hell do you expect me to reproduce your very special problem? You keep on ranting about the subtitles not working, yet you failed to mention a very important detail - greek subs seem not to work properly. That's the result of wicker_man's detailed test, another user you kept barking at for no good reason.

It's you who has been ranting here for days, being rude and totally not helpful in any way. You should thank wicker_man for the proper bug report of your problem.

Yes, greek subs DO NOT work properly, because
a) they have a huge delay which causes them to flash and become unreadable if you choose the greek encoding support

and

b) you have to choose greek as the additional encoding support, otherwise all you see is gibberish, not greek.

he may have been a bit rude, but he is right.

I don't speak or read greek, and yet i was curious enough to try and work out what happened.

I'm uploading the video to youtube as we speak.

EDIT: Besides, that's not his very special problem - it's a problem for all greeks, perhaps for other languages/countries as well.

I'am having troubles with Slovenian accented characters in subtitles (windows 1250 - ščžŠČŽ).
Most of them are not displaying at all (except č which is displayed as e with a carret on it).
Any ideas?

(and yes, I have 1.02.04 FW)

Hi, did you select correct (windows-1250) additional encoding in wdtv menu? And is your subtitles in windows 1250 encoding?

Because these letters works fine on my box.

1) Yes, it's a permanent thing, that *may* change in the future if WD decides to make that into the setting menu.

2) Use a program called mediainfo to find out the specs on those videos and report back with that info. Most likely, they will have too many reframes (more than 5, if i remember correctly).
