I have a Sharp Aquos 42" LCD and I've always been getting slight Zoom-in on all material.
Maybe this is because the resolution of the screen is 1366x768 instead of 1280x720, but anyway, I would really appreciate more Zoom options like everyone else here, so I can slightly zoom out to correct this.
I'm seriously considering moving to an NMT just because of this.

Any improvements with the navigation (ff/rev)? Or is it still the 32x with 10 min jumps on next/prev?

Dear kciaccio ,

While I really respect your contribution to this community compared to my insignificant 3-4 posts , I think that you were unfair here.

What is important to someone is a matter of personal opinion.

In countries like Greece where we don't butcher (I know personal opinion again) the movies/series by dubbing them , so the quality of the subtitles is a number one priority!!

The greek WDTV community is a really thriving one (although we know that we are a minor community compared to the english-speaking countries)

So I really hope that the WDTV engineer will fix the bug that was introduced to 1.02 with the flashing subtitles making the product almost useless to Greeks

As for the font quality , I can only hope - not demand. (But Iam sure that you too, would be asking some font improvements if the English font was e.g. showing the W letter like a U or something.... )

with respect again ,
s.

Just want to say thanks for the firmware update, one of the best so far with the external hard drive shutdown command, saves me from getting off my arse and pulling the cable out!

I still don't understand the need for skipping videos on the remote, would rather it be changed to skip 10 minutes at a time without having the fast forward/rewind first.

Hope that you will continue to improve the WDTV once the final 1.02.XX rom is out...

hello guys ( didn't saw any female)
WD great job but sleeping first 3 months in future will be not acceptable !!

the only thing that could be improved for me is zoom feature
please say that you (WD_guys) watching ANY material with x8 zoom PLEASE SAY IT
it will explain why you add this because i dont know any other person who use this
many movies have ratio 2.35:1, it covers about 75% of the screen in 16:9 TVs so there are two belts 12% each that stays black all movie > what a waste and zooming even x2 is toooo much (dont mention about x4 and x8 )
My proposition : please try to focus on features that increase enjoying viewing HD movies (WDTV is created for it) and leave things like thumbs or improving ff/rew (who use it ? ) or other useless options UNTIL simple/standard/BASIC features like subs/codecs/zoom/real_stby/etc. are not working properly

Maybe we can votes, or make some public opinion poll on which feature you should focus,

please also keep in mind that there is a group of WDTV fans who made an unnoficial firmware and did this little box even better than you think it will be, but they cannot resolve some things due to limitations of shared libraries (sigma protected libs) so they NEVER will be able to for e.x. change zoom option or improve/add codecs but they CAN add THUMBS/LAN/WIFI/DVDROM/WEATHER/TORRENTS/etc

OK. enough, thats all from me, please consider my post, read it and keep upgrading this little device, maybe in next few weeks/months it will be best valuable box in the market.

ps. sorry for my English, it is not my native language

So you mean if you stop a movie midway you watch it again from the start Just because a feature is not too important for you doesn't mean that it is rubbish. For me I've never used the zoom feature, does that make it an useless option?

In the future, just ask for what you want and leave the order of importance to the people implementing it or like you said have a poll

On a more serious note: I see that people are concerned that even though the HDD is spinning down, power is still on. Why are people concerned about this other than power consumption?

i dunno if this is a bug or not, maybe i have missed something. For the most part cover art works fine and is a great feature. But i have noticed that it doesn't work if the picture is saved in folder that contains other folders e.g.
Top Folder - Family Guy
Family Guy.jpg
-> Season 1
-> Season 2
-> Season 3
-> Season 4

If these sub folders weren't there , then the cover art would show up.

Some of us have very quiet Drives and even when they are "up" are very very quiet. If we just pulled the plug it could damage the drive.

In my case I belive the WD is spinning down the drive, but keeping the port alive. Which I am OK with, I am still not going to remove the drive without ejecting, but its a nice feature for when the WD shuts down.

Thank you.

Thanks WDTV-team for the rapidly updates

Here is my list over things that needs some attention:

1) Subs on/of via settings = NOT WORKING

When the movie continues, the subtiles are gone, and must be enabled via the menu.

2) Subs size = NOT WORKING!

The subs size remains the same whatever I choose

3) Subs outline thickness via menu = NOT WORKING!

Likely the point 2 above, no change happend whatever I choose.

Suggestions:
Like MCE; What about some aspect radiato functions? Make strange stretched clips look as the should be?

Besides, thank You so very much for this lovely product. I love it. And thanks for listening so well to all these complains we got..

To ScottWD and GuyWD:

This movie worked very well in 1.01.02 with subs on!

But with firmware 1.02.07, the movie shutters or chokes when subs are "on".

I think that the rendering of subs is taking too much processing power from Sigma chip... then the movie begins to choke.

Here are the specs of the movie:

Zooming the way you explained would cut the left and right side of the picture. What a waste, I don't get people who do that

Is that movie using IDX/SUB?

For 2) and 3), keep in mind that if the movie is using IDX/SUB (Vobsub) then the sub size and outline thickness settings will do nothing. This is because IDX/SUB are bitmaps overlaid over the video and aren't rendered at playback time.

MKV chapters are supported. They are accessed through Options during playback. Not intuitive but it does work.

But if you listen closely can you hear the drive spindown? 1.02.07 now issues a spindown command to the drive(s) when you turn off the WD TV. The drive light will remain on but you should hear the drive spindown.

Dear ScottWD and GuyWD please do something about

1).Audio clipping (audio should not be amplified/processed in any way)
2).24bit/96Khz pass-through option to optical out(Currently HD 24/96 audio is downsampled into 48KHz )
3).user defined gap between audio tracks (or gapless playback)

Can't wait to have these issues resolved so i can also buy my WD TV

Yes, take a look at some statistics made with subs on and off.

The new subtitle rendering application used after 1.01.02 is KILLING everything.

But other than that, when ever if ever, I would like my subtitles with a purple background, and the body striped yellow.
Oh.. almost forgot.
I also want my thumbnails painted red.....

Come on Guys at WD sort out the basics, and then you can do the refinements.

Cheers

With the input from the community things are being improved, if ever so slowly. Yes, I'm never gonna use EVO files or arabic subs, but how can I judge others' requests? And why shouldn't they be fixed if it's feasible?

Yes, some ppl's tone may sometimes be harsh; but it's only normal if WDTV doesn't deliver as it should. At this date, support for the greek char set is dysfunctional, for arabic is inexistent as I read. Why shouldn't ppl scream if they feel cheated?

To sum it up: For many of us, some requests may appear trivial or useless. Nonetheless, WD builds almost for free a knowledge base for the future. They do try to fix as much as possible in WDTV, but I guess that they also design a WDTV 2.0; these rants or crazy ideas could be valuable in the long term. Media players might well facilitate a paradigm shift in distribution of digital content. At the end of the day, WD benefits greatly from the current discussion.

If you read what I wrote, you'd see that it said that they weren't going to be able to satisify everyone's requests which is true. If they could, then there wouldn't be any need for any other NMT products, now would there? As I speak English, I don't need all these improvements with subtitles but I sympathize with people who do rely on them and it's good to see that WD is working on these issues. What is annoying is the people who constantly go on and on about things that were never claimed to be supported but which other higher priced media players do support so they somehow feel that the WDTV must also support them or it's a "failed" product and they feel like they've been "cheated". As other people have already said repeatedly, why would anyone buy a product expecting it to do something it didn't claim to do and then get mad about it? Buy the product that does what you want it to do in the first place. Do I understand why people would want DTS support? Sure. Do I think they need to drown every WDTV thread in requests for it when there's a simple workaround of converting the audio that only takes about 15 minutes? No. Same goes for DVD menus. WD never claimed to support ISO playback (even though it apparently does work) and they never claimed to support DVD menus. Would it be nice if they did at some point? Sure. Does every thread that gets started about the WDTV need to be inundated with "You need to support DVD-menus!!" posts over and over with every other word bolded or in a different color? No. Is it rocket science for people to stick with the topics that threads were created for? No.

/rant
This discussion doesn't add to the purpose of this thread which is problems/issues with the latest beta firmware.

I'm seriously considering moving to an NMT just because of this.

Try changing the aspect ratio on your tv, my LG 42" did the same when i set it to 16:9. On my tv when its connected to the hdmi/dvi port it gives me an extra aspect ratio option but im not at home and i dont remember what its called, but i think it basically reads the aspect ratio sent by the hdmi signal or something like that.
