Hey there - first post.

The WD firmware download site seems to indicate that the firmware is for Model: WDAVN00
See: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/produ...72&language=en
(Sorry - can't post BBCode urls before I've made at least 3 posts)

My WDTV has the model number WDAVP00BE.

Model numbers are explained here:
http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc....p?p_faqid=2697
From wdc.custhelp.com:
Code:
...
Order/Model Number US: WDAVN00BN (NTSC)
Order/Model Number Europe: WDAVP00BE (PAL)
Order/Model Number Asia: WDAVN00BS (NTSC)
Order/Model Number Multi-City Asia: WDAVP00BS (PAL)
...
On my device it is found on the right side on a black label with characters in a very small font: "WD P/N : WDAVP00BE".

I'm a bit scared of bricking my new WDTV so can anybody confirm that the WDAVN00 firmware works for the WDAP00BE (European/PAL) model?.

WDAVN00 firmware I'm referring to:
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/wdtv/

TIA

The firmware is compatible to all WDTV models sold around the world, there is just one firmware available on the official WD site. I have a PAL WD TV-HD myself (WDAVP00BE), and the firmware updates work just fine.

P.S.: It really was not necessary to start a new thread because of this.

Thx for the answer high_definitely
Assured me.

About the PS,
I'm not sure I agree. This specific subject is not mentioned anywhere in any form in any thread as far as I have searched. Actually not even as far as I have googled globally.
Burying the subject in one of those 2/3/7000 posts subjects makes it much harder for others looking for an answer especially if you are not sure how to formulate the question in the search facility. In those cases browsing through subject titles and reading moderate sized subjects to check for an answer is much easier. That's my experience with forums anyway.
And you lose that fancy tagging possibility (Search by Tag)
But ok,- maybe the problem is that this subforum "Digital Media Servers & Content Streamers" at the moment, deduced from the back history of this subforum, seems to have been "hijacked" by WDTV questions so you might got a point there!

Anyway, thanks very much for your answer.

The thing is, various posters who don't own / are not interested in the WD TV-HD complained about all the new threads 'flooding' this subforum lately, and in a way, I can see their point. That's why I said that a new thread was not necessary, and still think that it wasn't.

However, the 'real solution' to this is a WD TV-HD subforum, as suggested weeks ago. But unfortunately, the admins don't see it that way.

Well,- in that light, multiple complaints from non-WDTV owners, I have to agree.

So I suppose these are the "Official" WDTV threads:

Bug/Feature request discussion

Kinda confused here - I had the same question as the previous poster.

And why is it - that not on just THIS forum, but on almost every forum I've ever been to, there are people (moderators) who are rude, snide, nasty, and persnickity about new threads, or replies or what-not? Can't you people get OVER yourselves a bit and just be helpful?

Or is that some big, dark, secret conspiracy of support personnel in general?
(and why I never did well working in Tech Support - as I was told I was "too helpful")

Still, I'd like an answer. WD media servers ARE digital media servers, which is what this forum is supposed to be about, right? No? Where then?

AND - did the firmware upgrade work on the "lower" model number?
