The Xtreamer is the simplest unit to play and store your entire DVD collection in one digital Ultra portable place.

2.Backing up and playing DVD files is an extremely simple process with Xtreamer Media Players. All you have to do is to transfer all your DVD files (.VOB and .IFO) from your DVD to your Xtreamer HDD. Put all of these files in one folder (e.g. name of the movie/video).

Once all these files are in a folder on the Xtreamer, simply connect the Xtreamer to you TV and navigate to enter the folder. Select "Play" and the movie will start exactly like your DVD. You can use the DVD menus to choose languages/subtitles, etc., just like a DVD playback.

Another simpler way to for playing DVD's, and the way to playback using the Xtreamer: Just select and play the first file, VIDEO_TS.IFO. If you have built your DVD structure correctly, it should play just fine with all menus and features.

Alternatively, you can also create an ISO image of your DVD. Xtreamer Media Players support ISO playback also!

Wow !!!
And I assume that you are affiliated with Xtreamer?

A lot of advertising but no product - yet.

Lets wait and see

Ah..
Just got the drift. WDTV hasn't got its DVD menu support yet.
But still,

Wasn't advertising, just posting something in response to a question someone else had and something I was wondering myself.

I agree, it is great to see hype around a product but it is really hard to read people talking about Xtreamer doing this and that when there is no basis for those claims. Once the Xtreamer gets into the hands of real people and we start getting some real world feedback we will have plenty of time to make a decision. I really hope the Xtreamer follows through on its claims, as the bar has been set very high...

Cheers,
Damian

Things are getting interesting...someone on the Xtreamer forums pointed out that the device looks identical to the MvixMCE. Go to Mvix.net and click on the MvixMCE link. (This is my second post so I can't post the direct-link.)

Ok, we already know that the Xtreamer is a product by Mvix Europe, so it seems that it's a rebranded MvixMCE. But i don't find any reviews or further infos on this device too, 'cause it is also just announced ..

Hmmm....definitely looks very similar. It doesn't appear to be on sale yet. The GUI looks different then the Xtreamer (at least from the screenshots)

Well it is known that the Xtreamer was being produced by MVIX, considering the storefront is operated by MVIX Europe.... How good or bad is MVIX?

Assuming that the Xtreamer and the MvixMCE are "closely related" what benefit would there be to basically rebrand one of your own devices? Is this just a marketing gimmick, I mean how many people have heard of the MvixMCE?

I wonder if one of the key differences will be that Xtreamer is open source/community supported whereas MViX is not (?)

I'm not personally claiming the it's a negative or a positive.

I simply find it interesting, and I'm sure others do as well, that the two products look identical (In my opinion).

Knowing this if the MvixMCE had been out and has reviews of it already available we could have read those reviews. Sadly I havn't been able to find any.

(Edit) I'm sure if someone was so inclined they could email Mvix and ask them is they are officially backing the Xtreamer, and if it's the same product as thier MvixMCE. Letting them know your are apprehensive to buy the product, but with the backing and design from a company such as theirs it would ease your mind.

They look identical, but according to the specs the MvixMCE supports 3.5" drives whereas the Xtreamer supports 2.5" HDDs. Because of this information, one would expect the Xtreamer to be more compact.

Apparently only the picture changes showing the unit, and the rest of the page is static.
So that 3.5" could be for any one of their products
Could be an oem with the Mvix and Xtreamer badges on them.
Strange that a company releases 2 identical units with different names and characteristics. That is off coarse if they are the same. They look the same anyway.

It's a pity companies go all the way from R&D to production, and at the very end where they present the final product they screw up
Cheers

What specs? The text under the shown models, including the 3,5" phrase on the Mvix homepage, remains the same for every presented model.. maybe it's a failure.

Here the movie jukebox comparison:

(funny, the original file from Mvix is called Yamj1.jpg )

Ok, the normal MvixMCE GUI-view is another (i don't mean the Jukebox) .. but to be honest, the Xtreamer GUI looks much better to me

I've used a MVIX 760HD (older sigma chip-no h264 support) for 2 years mainly for HD MPEG 2, DVR transfers and it functions as advertised and has never failed. Support questions were always answered. Playback on a 40 inch SONY Bravia is identical to HD broadcast. Had no problems with component connections but as with any brand, many pros and cons on the MVIX Community USA forum. More recently, using WDTV and am on the list for Xtreamer. Overall, no complaints with MVIX.

...very carefully?

Actually, I've never posted on AVForums, although I do lurk. You must be thinking about the NMT forums, and it was for discussing the Xtreamer with other members in the "Offtopic - Anything Goes" section of the NMT forums.

As it turns out this section of the forums was named poorly, as the NMT forum mods didn't take kindly to my stirring up discussion about the competition on what they said were 'NMT/PCH sponsored' forums. Despite numerous other devices being discussed in similar threads at the time, I guess there was a limit to 'anything goes' discussion, especially when seen as a threat to their bottom line. Good riddance.

The only reason I was in that forum discussing Xtreamer in the first place was because it was one of the few and first Google hits with any type of relevant discussion to the player that seemed to be current. Now we have this thread, and there's no better forum for AV enthusiasts to freely discuss things about this product and other products without prejudiced or biased mod's with vested interests interfering.

Check this out:

----

And according to the Mvix thing: some speculations from a portuguese board (htforum.com) mention, that the MvixMCE might be the original product and was discontinued after signing for other partnerships to develop the project xtreamer. Though the MvixMCE might not be shown on international Mvix Websites (and has a crap gui on mvix.net). Also found some info on hometheater.co.il, but didn't understood the translation correct .. something about developers in israel, turkey and russia, but i'm not sure about that.

Other speculations tell that xtreamer is for the european market only, but if you look in the mvix forum you see support in european languages and on the xtreamer page shippment to the U.S. is also stated. And this link leads to an asian supplier offer on the xtreamer: http://translate.google.com/translat...reamer&prev=hp

indeed and they are not trying to hide this: information from their forum

The Xtreamer was designed and manufactured by the joint effort of Unicorn-Mvix, Zyxel and Realtek and other vendors. each contributed its knowledge in a joint Korean-China-Taiwanese effort to come up with a device that will be both attractive in terms of price and specs.

So i think they know what they are talking about.

Same here. EDIT: Found a workaround for now, click on one of the top menu headings in the background (ie. Specs, Wireless, Compare.. etc.)

EDIT2: Update: Xtreamer has removed the promo from auto-loading on their main page. It can still be found at the top menu by clicking 'TV Promo' or found on YouTube using the links on this page (and also found on page 1) of this thread.

I too spotted that the movie jukebox on Xtreamer and Mvix is identical, what worries me is that according to the Mvix forum the movie jukebox is not yet in beta testing, so when will it be available on the Xtreamer?

I am very interested in the Xtreamer and I really hope it performs as promised but I have niggling doubts about it that are stopping me from ordering until I have seen a creditable review.

You can't really blame them for not wanting any posts about a product that is advertised as delivering 80% of what the new PCH does but at a fraction of the price.

or 120% of what the a-110 does for half the price. Thinking of pre-ordering the c-200 I went ahead and ordered the xtreamer. Makes more sense.
