Yes, you are right. Sometimes, the fellow users (such as Thomas) give more help to people in using this unit. If the unit is bought from AmpereDirect, they have a phone number listed on the website for people to call and ask questions.

I would check with any reseller the warranty. Supposedly HDX is reducing the warranty from 2yrs to 1 yr, but resellers may still offer the 2yr warranty

Cheers,

Question: Is the HDX BD1 now able to format newly installed hard drives?

Yes. Partition anf format your drive using CSI upgrade - use option full upgrade.
Works fine with 4.20 f/w

Hey I just got the BD-1 today and threw in an internal hard drive and connected the cable
how do you connect this unit to the computer. I was looking for the USB 2.0 jack on the BD-1 and I don't see it; only an esata on the back

am I missing something ?

You can transfer files on BD-1's internal HDD from PC only using ftp client like FileZilla.
The Samba server is not implemented on BD-1 and there is no USB slave connection.

this is a terrible function. why have a hard drive on this if you can't connect it to the computer and copy and paste files? that is the whole point of having hard drives
I have external hard drives and that is what I do. that is the purpose of having a hard drive
I have seen other media players that have the usb 2.0 connector on it; that solves the problem; I have no idea what the manufacturer was thinking when they made this product
what about removing the internal HDD connecting to the computer via adapter cables and copying and pasting files and then inserting it back into the bd1 ?

Wait a minute, you mean if I connect a USB drive to this device, I can't copy files from a PC with the LAN network?

"what about removing the internal HDD connecting to the computer via adapter cables and copying and pasting files and then inserting it back into the bd1 ?" - best way to copy large media collection.
"you mean if I connect a USB drive to this device, I can't copy files from a PC with the LAN network?" - no luck with official fw 4.20
Some users reported few improvements (copy from LAN to local HDD) starting with 4.22.0.rc3

I am hearing the bd1 uses linux system so you can't just connect the internal drive to computer and copy the files unless you format the drive with the 3 partitions first and then use linux

Yes, BD-1 uses ext3 partitions.
Best practice is to partition and format the HDD inside the player, during CSI upgrade procedure (option Full Format HDD). The folder structure will be also created for CSI apps.
After that, remove the HDD and connect it to your PC where you need to install a small soft to allow Windows to read/write ext2/3 partitions, like ext2ifs or ext2fsd.

in using the BD1, I noticed a couple strange missing features
when you play a file and hit info, it does not show a running time of the file and also does not show the resolution of the file, 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720, just about all other media players including 2 others that I have do this with no problem
I have firmware 4.18 ; does the newer firmware show this info?

also, will I be able to format an internal Hard Drive from the player? if so, how to do it

the extfsd and some others are not made for windows 7

does anyone know a software that can be used with windows 7 to do this?
