I have a simple question but don't want to go through all the pages in this thread. So here it is:
I have the Oppo BDP 80, hooked to my PC via ethernet cable. My PC is powerful enough to transcode without problems, I.E., Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit, AMD Phenom II X4 955 O/C to 3700MHz, 12 gigs RAM, AMD HD 6850 videocard, etc.
My question is which FREE server streaming software works flawlessly under this type of setup?
I have both TVersity and Serviio. Is there an even better server package that is also free?
Also, I've been using MKV Toolnix to convert MP4 video files to MKV, as recommended by Oppo tech support, but for the last little while this has not been working. The MKV files refuse to play back on the Oppo 80, when being read from my Patriot USB 2.0 thumb drive on the front port, though they always did before. Is this a firmware version culprit or is this a random type of problem? Or is it a problem with various versions of MKV Toolnix? (I haven't managed to try them on the TVersity yet but I am assuming they won't work there either.) The thumbdrive is formatted to Fat32 and the files are never larger than 4 Gigs. In fact, they are usually less than 400 MB.
Moreover, when I download an MP4 video file from YouTube and convert it to MKV using the MKV Toolnix program, they also refuse to play back via the USB thumbdrive. It just spins up to 100% and then won't play. And finally it seems to lockup the Oppo 80 at the end of it all.
Here is the file I downloaded from YouTube using the latest version of YouTube Downloader: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad7lenMmYJI
I then converted it to MKV using the latest MKV Toolnix.
Thanks for your replies folks. I appreciate all the expert advice I've always gotten here.
