Just wanted to bring attention to the latest TViXiE 1.3.0. with fan art. The new version supports TViX, WDTV and a few other NMTs (sorry I'm not familiar with which) with Dune support in the works. Here's a screen with fan art.

Thanks to the guys at tvixie.com, I've really enjoyed re-indexing all my files, and found it easy to use.

While I finally got it working with the Dune, this is still work in progress. The current version does not automate a few functions, main being the dune_folder.txt which has to be added manually.

Try it! You'll like it! TViXiE

Does look nice. But for WDTV, only works on the original, not the new Live, with custom firmware installed.

I figured so, that's why I didn't include it. But I wouldn't think that it would be difficult to make it work on the Live since it is a Sigma based box, right?

Believe it uses the Sigma SMP-8655 chip. The custom firmware for it, created by B-RAD, is different than what he did for the original WD TV. Maybe B-RAD or someone with more knowledge can comment on this. I have the Live and would love to use something like TViXiE on it.

I made a little post with a link a week or so ago about it. Some were saying it didn't work but others said you had to make adjustments. MpcClub has a sticky on artwork possibilities for the Dune.

Thanks bluewhale1 for that link. I opted to go with TViXiE because I was already using a TViX and I didn't want to chagne apps now that I also have a Dune. I needed something to work with both so I was thrilled that Dune support was added.

This version does not generate a file needed to get it running on Dune but since it's a simple text file, no problem. Figuring out what all gets controlled was another issue.....right now, I'm flustered by all the files (icons) that clutter up the nice background, but it sure is much better sight than the vanilla Dune.

The current version of TViXiE requires you add a file dune_folder.txt where the movie resides, which is the instructions to Dune on how to display the movie info/fanart. I also found you need the same file in the directory where the movies are listed to show your cover properly.

PM me and I'll send you the .txt files to insert, if you need.

Just saw this over at MPCclub from Malignat.... About the next release of Tvixie 1.3.1....
Quote:

- Added: Automatically creates the "dune_folder.txt" file for Dune players, the default template for this file can be found in the Models.xml under the Dune section and can be modified to fit your needs [joma]
- Changed: Modified the standard file names for Dune to .tvix.jpg and .folder.jpg which makes them invisible in the Dune player GUI [joma]

This looked cool, but I couldn't get it to work: it would always hang at "generating thumbnails". After a while, I'd get tired of waiting, and click the done button. Then I'd get the folder view, with the coverart, but when I click it, instead of the fanart, I get a black screen with an yellow arrow pointing up in the window. I messed with it all night, but that was all it would do.

Better but still needs some work

The background highlight is wrong. The root folder doesn't have the dune_text but each folder with the movie in it does. May be the reason why i can see that icon and everything isnt centered.

Also the bottom picture is fine but i highlight the words at the bottom. when i hit play or enter nothing happens. I have to use the down arrow key so the word change to the actual video file and then i can play the movie.

Ok here is what i have now

I added the root folder dune_text file that My movies makes so the cover icon view is fine.

Here is what the text says for the root folder

use_icon_view = yes
num_cols = 5
num_rows = 2
icon_top = 15
icon_bottom = 0
caption_font_size = small
text_bottom = 0

I still have to scroll down to select the actual file name. the picture never changes just the words at the bottom

Ok so i had to add a . to some of the files so that i wouldnt have to scroll to the file name. Now after i click the movie cover icon and go to the zombieland image (second photos above) if i hit play or enter the movie plays because the bottom words only show the zombieland mp4 file.

So basically what i have found with version 1.3.1 is

1) Have to add the dune_folder.txt file to the root folder and delete the icon tvixie or else it looks funky

2) Have to add . to some of the files in the movie folder or else you will have to hit arrow key on Dune a couple of time until the movie file name is shown at bottom to play file.

Now after changing this i don't now how it will effect tvixie if you need to go back and edit the files again.
A lot of work for someone with a lot of movies
