This is an overseas source. I believe Egreat presence in the US is minimal. From a practicality standpoint it may be better to consider a unit like the Nixeus Fusion HD. There has been made reference on this forum that Nixeus is working toward full BD ISO support as well as Netflix. Netflix end of year. If you buy overseas it will most likely cost more than the Nixeus and with Fusion HD you have the option of an internal drive. Another concern, I have an Egreat M34A and I feel that Egreat has essentially abandoned FW enhancements. There are features on the M34A that do not function such as HD content rewind. Where Nixeus is a US base for the software development. If there is a button on the Fusion remote each one works. In other words regardless of file type the rewind works and all other remote functions work. So, if you invest in the Egreat you may be an island. At least in the US.

Yes, Nixeus Fusion HD Looks like a really nice promising box...

but, its not USB 3.0 :/

and we know by now that promised features in a futur firmware might never materialize...

You will currently find it very difficult finding the A1080 for sale outside Asia.

See the A1080 page on iboum for info explaining the problems with the firmware (largely copied illegally from HDI Dune).

A new (original) firmware is on it's way soon so sales can resume.

It would be impractical for someone in the US to buy from Europe anyway due to import taxes and the different power supplies (230V vs 110V).

As to the Nixeus, it looks like a decent player but I doubt full BD-ISO support will ever materialise. The VMP75 is similar but much cheaper so may be a better option.

Eskro,

All I can do is reference: The below from http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1265806 where the user contacted Nixeus.

Netflix by end of year
I emailed Nixeus support about Netflix, and they said it should be implemented by the end of the year. I returned my Popbox today, and ordered a Fusion HD. Hopefully, this box can replace my ancient PCH A100.

So, Eug, should I perhaps buy a Nixeus?!

There is no need to spam unrelated threads with Nixeus promotion.

But since we're on the subject, the Nixeus is way overpriced. The VMP 75 for example does nearly everything it does and is half the price!

In fact, there are a number of Sigma 8655 players now coming out of China that will do similar for around half the price. The Dopodo, the new Egreat, and more to come..

iboum (is this Simon?),

After the let down with the Popbox I was so happy to come across the Fusion HD. A box that works from the get go and a box without a buggy UI from the get go. All features that should work do work. All the other streamers I've owned prior had some deficiencies. I read about users languishing on this forum over products that simply do not perform fully.

The Fusion HD has internal 3.5. Most boxes with internal drive bays are priced similar. Egreat products are not practical in the US due to the lack of their presence and also, my experience with the M34A is that Egreat will only support enhancements to a point and then cease. Some abilities the M34A should have had from the first point of sale such as RW on HD material will never exist.

I learned of the Fusion HD prior to the VMP75. But, I did buy a VMP75 and it does what the Fusion does equally as well. I did want at least one box with an internal drive bay. Now I have one Fusion and one VMP75. I think the fact that the VMP75 is Viewsonic and Nixeus is US based is a big advantage over some other boxes from obscure designers/manufacturers. Syabas has burned their bridge with me so even though they are US they've lost all credibility.

Only time will tell if my supposition that a US based company and an international company namely Viewsonic will be able to sustain their quality of products and features in the market place.

Sure there are other players coming out in the future that may be less expensive but I waited 6 months for the Popbox, returned it and needed another box to replace it now and there was the Nixeus solution. Why do you say my involvement in this thread is unrelated to the topic matter? I simply confirmed to the author what you stated that it is very difficult to find the A1080 outside of Asia. I even posted the Futeko link in the event the author did want to pursue an offshore purchase. I simply provided a viable less expensive alternative with most of the feature set of the A1080.

nice post Eug7 :P

You may be right...

VMP75 is a great box and if you need internal Hard Disk,

Fusion HD
is a good choice too!

Note also the WDTV Live Plus which does everything the VMP75 does too!

Eskro,

About a month ago I bought a WD Live Plus for sister. Before I gave it to her I gave it a spin. It would not play a few of my files of DVD rips trans-coded to H264 via Handbrake. My M34A plays these files flawlessly but the Live Plus was audio out of sync. The VMP75 plays these files flawlessly. This is my personal experience between the 2 boxes.

Nearly? Is there something the Fusion HD chip does that the VMP75 chip does not?

It seems like Nixeus has better support than Viewsonic? Nixeus has been quick to respond through email. I looked at both websites and Nixeus has 4 firmwares available (5/27, 6/9, 6/29, 7/12) for download and just today there is a post about a beta in the Nixeus thread. I only see a 7/1/10 firmware on Viewsonic's website for the VMP75. I see nothing for VMP70 or VMP71. Anyone know if it is Viewsonic policy to only list the latest firmware and not any previous ones?

The below is found on the Nixeus thread (differences between the Fusion HD and the VMP75). I own both. The feature set is nearly identical. If you want internal hard drive with a mainstream file format FAT, NTFS then in my case I did pay the extra for the Fusion knowing that at anytime I can drop in a 2TB and rather than expand my network capacity with another NAS I can get an extra 2TB on the network for say the extra $60.00 from what the Fusion costs over the VMP75. I also get the impression that the potential for future YAMJ and other niceties are possible with the Fusion as referenced on these forums where the VMP75 is pretty much closed. If someone knows to the contrary please share.

For those of you researching this product and want to know more about it here are a few useful links - I will update these as the thread develops and links get added.

For the sake of Full disclosure, I do not work for Nixeus or any of it's re-sellers.Anyone who is unsure of this , can check my previous posts (600+) - I have been into the Mediaplayer scene for the last 3+ years , and have a great interest in new and exciting players that come out.

The Viewsonic VMP75 and the Nixeus Fusion Hd are from the same stable , basically the Viewsonic VMP75 is a "cut down" version of the Nixeus Fusion.
Here is a list of functions and features that the Viewsonic VMP75 DOES NOT have , but the Nixeus Fusion DOES:

TWO years fully warranty.
Internet web browser (Flash to be supported soon)
Wireless N Dongle included.
The Ability to accecpt a INTERNAL 3.5" hard disk (Which then works as a NAS).
USB Slave support/port to the above.
ESATA Port.
Support for "Sort by Date" - at this time, only single files are sorted by date - This is a VERY useful feature if you have a download directory with 100's of un-sorted files in it.It allows instant access to the most recent file.I know of no other media player that has this feature.
Torrent feature.
Ref the above feature , you do not have to reformat your hard drive to obtain the above - on some players you do , making it hard to transfer a hard disk loaded with content to a new player).
Date sort feature (coming soon , and I know of no other player that has this).
Weather display on front page.
US Based support, No jobs overseas - warms the cockels of your heart.

Regards to all,

Teddy

OK, that list needs correction. VMP75 DOES have:

Internet web browser (let's brag about flash support when it actually appears)
eSATA port
Weather display

There is one more "small" thing which VMP75 does have and Nixeus Fusion does not - Netflix.

I know, they promised it by the end of the year, but I have my doubts.

Thanks Hoary for the bonus information. One thing I failed mention that Teddy did mention. The Fusion comes with a WIFI dongle for those who desire wireless. That is at least $20.00 right there.

I was actually about to buy the EGreat with a purchase group because it can play Blu-Ray ISO and works almost like the Dunes that everyone is so happy about and the Egreat costs less than the Dunes... then there was a report that Egreat was actually using Dune's firmware (stolen?) and I backed off..

here is the thread...

There is no such thing as a Real Media Player, they all buy the same chipset and the all copy from each order.
Even the BIG companies are doing the same this(Samsung;Sony;LG ETC......)
