NICE! I like the form-factor much better. I can definitely see that in the 'ole HT!

Instead of the three base units I was going to get I can easily see getting two of these and a base. But I need to understand how they will play with the various front end software.

Someday maybe I'll actually WATCH my projector...

Dune HD Smart D1 is now on my target because of its decent price.
Don't know when and how I can get it here in USA.

Hmmm...I was just thinking exactly the opposite.

They do look well-built, but maybe a little bulky.

I wonder if I will be able to exchange my prime for one D1 and one B1. I was about to buy a base, but if I could get a D1 and a B1 for about the price of one prime that would be great.

Kind of out of left field, but I'd have to say they look like a more competitive lineup of products than the current base/prime offering. Not a lot of people have a need for 7.1 analog outs anymore.

I'm definitely interested. I've been a little listless about getting a network player for the basement (gimping along with a PS3) but the choice now looks like it will come down to SageTV announcing their HD300 before the H1 becomes available to purchase.

I wouldn't mind replacing my two WDTV Live units with either B1 or D1 units. I don't really need the blu-ray drive as I already have a standalone in each of my HT rooms so the D1 is looking very promising. Having said that, depending on how good the blu-ray player integration is in the MAX it might be worth considering since it appears to support 3D a well.

Anyway, I'm glad these were posted as I was about to pull the trigger on a Prime or Base this week. Looking at the D1 it seems to have everything significant the Base has for a fair bit less money.

I think with these price points the Dune line should really pick up in sales.

I'm trying to figure when I would want an internal HD vs the optical. If you are doing streaming from a network source do you need the HD for anything? Can I do the front end cover art, etc without an internal HD? If so it's an easy choice for me

Someday maybe I'll actually WATCH my projector...

This looks really good.

I see multiple B1 / D1 units depending on the room.

Then my xtreamers can go into the trash bin, where they belong.

Just wanted to add that I am a brand new Dune 3.0 Prime owner and it is awesome! Too bad these were just announced so soon after purchase but it's okay. Happy with the 3.0 so I don't feel bad or anything.

Love the new form factor options available. That can be useful for multiple rooms with different requirements. I look forward to the release.

Me Too! The only thing that I see, that I might want, is a Coax digital output.

What is the difference between the SMART D1 and the SMART H1? Does the D1 have an interal Hard Drive Bay, whereas the H1 comes with a Hard Drive?

I was about to pull the string on a Dune Base, so glad I did not!

Do you think the Base will be discontinued?

It looks like the Base has more outputs.

The D1 is a "head unit" that can act as a standalone streamer or can be used to control additional adjunct modules.

The H1 is basically the D1 without a display but with a removable SATA drive bay.

The entire system is modular which is very, very cool. I think it would be really sweet if I could put a disc in one Dune unit and play it back on another one. Theoretically this is already possible but I don't know if it is in the firmware.

Also I don't know if the ESATA port can provide power to an adjunct or if you must plug a separate DC power supply into each "module".

It's going to be hard for them to sell a Dune Base at $349 when they now have a $250 unit that can also accept a SATA hard drive... most folks don't need coaxial digital output. I would expect that the price of the remaining inventory of Base and Prime models might be reduced for closeout but with the relatively strong demand for Dune machines maybe not.

Seems as if I was not allowed to post release information on the new products. Sorry to offend the powers that be, but there was no harm intended, just information.

Keep in mind, the new players are an addition to the Prime and the Base. The Prime and the Base units still have a place in the HDI Dune lineup. They keep the look of a conventional A/V component, and that is very important to lots of people. The firmware will be updated for these models, just as it always has been.

I am very excited about the new units, and it really offers a wide range of choices for the consumers.

Enjoy,

Mike

Only thing I'm not crazy about is the power bricks. Prefer the internal power supply.

These new line of players look VERY promising. The D1 and H1 interest me, probably the H1 more so since it has the "HDD rack with hot swap function". The D1 has the option for a hard drive but I don't think you can swap them out like the H1, as least that's what I understand from the description.

If the D1 had the "HDD rack with hot swap function" I would go with that because I like the idea of having a display, but I guess I could live without the display, swapping out the hard drives is more inportant for me.

Great timing. Glad they aren't waiting on the new Sigma chips, as I think that just adds potential for delays, new bugs, etc... stability with a great feature set is king if you ask me

This would appear to be of limited utility, but maybe they will make a disc that is loaded into this unit available through the host Dune machine to any other Dune player on the network.

This would make it a very desirable add-on for use of rental movies, etc.

Here's a picture of a smart unit and two HE expansion units bolted together to have a standard size component footprint;

Way cool.... Very excited and happy for everyone waiting for these products.
I hope the performance is as good as the base/prime. This will set the standard for all the sh*^ty companies out there. Get your act together or get out of the game. Fingers crossed that they will perform.

will 3d streaming be available on the prime with firmware upgrade? I figured you might need hdmi 1.4 for it but it seems like the new players have 1.3.

I think 1.4 is needed for 1080p 3D whereas HDMI 1.3a is for 1080i 3D

That's correct, the signal from an HDMI 1.3 device would be two fields of 1080i, where-as HDMI 1.4 can do two fields of 1080P.

Now what we need is confirmation of the UI. For all you experienced Dune guys, what's it like? It takes MyMovies, but not YAMJ, right?

Does anyone have the dimensions of these new units? I did not see the dimensions listed on the website or in the quickstart PDF guides they have available for download. If the dimensions work for me I might pick up the H1, D1, or B1.
