Thanks for the update but I've got to say; that is absolutely ridiculous.

Thanks for submitting that. I second it. While it might be easy for some to do the renaming and moving bit, I don't relish the thought of manually doing this for every one of my 1200+ titles (all folder structure rips). I'm hoping Pete can easily fix this in MCM, as it's come CLOSEST to giving me what I need data-wise.

Against my better judgment, I tried to order from Fry's. The order doesn't seem to have gone through, but at least they hit my credit card nine times... What a shame they didn't go with Amazon, especially during the Christmas shopping season and the release of the WNHDB3004.

Interesting that Fry's lists it as NTV550-NAS. Simliar to the EVA9150. Yet Netgear clearly states it is not meant to be a substitute for a NAS.

Then why does the netgear website list Canadian retailers (1c2c.ca, ncix.com)? And since when is a product sold throughout the US & Europe and not sold in Canada?

I pre-ordered from Frys with shipping to Canada. Unfortunately the order got cancelled 15 minutes later. I got this message: "We regret to inform you that the item you ordered cannot be exported. As a result, we've had to cancel your order."

I'd like to pre-order, but since I'm only a couple of miles from Fry's, it seems ridiculous to pay for shipping. I hope they have a bunch on hand when it's released.

I'd like to pre-order too, but another important thing to keep in mind is that Frys and Frys.com are not fully integrated....which means that (to the best of my knowledge) you can't return something to a Fry's store if you bought it on Frys.com...instead you have to deal with RMAs, shipping, etc. I'll just take my chances on picking one up in person.

this is still a niche product even for fry's electronics. i'm hoping they even have them unboxed and on the shelves so i don't have to wait for 4 people to figure out what i'm looking for and where in the warehouse it is.

What I'm looking for is something which can play files as well as the Dune but with better user interface. I want to see album art (for music and movies) and be able to search movies by genre etc and music by genre/artist/album etc.

Can the Neo this? Can it read flac tags (which include album art)?

I am in the same situation. This is exact the way i feel about dune. So i am very interested how the netgear 550 handels this files and cover art.
DTS-HD passtrough, Dolby True HD passtrough, full BD support, cover art for video and audio files, don't forget netradiostreams with tags + cover, nice gui on top of all and it will be my next player replacing the dune base 3.
of course it has to be testet and approved by users. (maybe on youtube...)

For the last 15 years or so this has been the way most non-eu/us/ca has been dealt with everywhere. It's a bit ironic to be able to order a product this time local that HAS NOT been avaliable in the US for months.

As a side-note: Apple iPad was launched here this morning... (although 50.000++ grey market units are already in use in Norway - that's 1% of the population - me included!).

Yes, it is almost a surreal situation to be able to order a product which hasn't been available for a LONG time in the US.

My NeoTV-550 is on its way in the mail and I am really looking forward to receiving it. It is going to be interesting to see how well it works compared to my old trustworthy PopCorn Hour A-100 (which now will move into my daughters room).

Back in mid-October I preordered a Boxee Box, but the availability of the Boxee Box here in Norway is so bad that I would have to wait until mid-January 2011 to receive it. So I cancelled my pre-order and ordered the NeoTV-550 a few days ago instead - after having read about it here on AVS Forum.

Anything in particular you guys want me to test when receiving it?

I will probably be accessing most of my media files through Samba shares on my 2 unRAID file servers

As a side note to the last message by @fls: I also own 1 of the ~50 000 grey-market iPad units in Norway

It's about time u americans get to wait while we (europe) get things first.

Does anyone know how "hackable" the neo is ? Is unofficial firmware possible ?

All I can say about this is with the 8000 and the 9150, many have tried. All have failed. Apparently the issue comes with the Sigma code not being available as open source.

I do hope you are right. I'd love to see some screen shots or a video of the GUI in action. What I'd like is Dune playback capabilities but with nice "wife and family friendly" GUI, even if that involves some work on my part in terms of "user customisation". Oh, and ongoing support. If the Neo can deliver then it'll be a winner.

Have you seen the NeoTV 550 Review? Plenty of screenshots of the GUI in there

Anyone know if the NeoTV 550 supports "port multiplier technology" on the ESATA port? Basically there are some HD enclosures that hold multiple (4) hard drives but documentation says that what ever you are connecting it to must support port multiplier technology. If it doesn't only one hard drive will be detected.
Thanks

Hi, Can anyone report back on how the GUI handles TV Shows, Box sets and Movie rips split into two files (Movie-CD1.AVI + Movie-cd2.AVI).

Also in Bozzeta's video of the interface there are screen shots of Parental control settings - does anyone any any further information on these settings might work.

Just about to order on Pixminia so any information on the above would be great.

Thanks.

Found one small problem.

When trying to access my windows shares, it does not find my shared folders that has a "." in front of the folder name. like .1080p movies. I use the "." in the folder name because then they are always on top of the list when i list my folders by name on my pc. Had to rename them, removed the "." now it works good.
