I had hoped this would be fixed by now, but apparently not. Someone reported (elsewhere) that accelerating scrolling worked in with an IR remote (Harmony, specifically, same as mine), but it seems they were wrong.
Today I purchased [another] ATV4 and set it all up again. It's good to see some things are working... Netflix appears to be better now, with subtitles functioning as expected, all using the Harmony. (I only watched one show but it seemed ok enough... although I still loathe the interface compared to the super-efficient ATV3 interface). It's nice to see a native Pandora app. I'm sure I'll want to play with Plex at some point, too, but not until basic functionality is in place for the rest of my usage.
Unfortunately the biggest deal killer, for me, is still broken: There is no good way to navigate a large collection that's kept on a connected computer, because Search doesn't search it, and scrolling is useless for large collections: it simply doesn't accelerate.
On the ATV3 when you scroll down a large list, I'm sure we've all seen that the longer you the hold down button down, the faster it goes. Using my ATV3, it took me approx 22 seconds to scroll from "A" (Adjustment Bureau) to the the end of the list (2001 Space Odyssey, since Apple sorts numbers to the end). You just push down and let it fly until you hit the end. Approx 1500 movies on this list.
Using the OEM BT remote for the ATV4, with intense concentration and continuous swiping (swipe carefully, or you'll accidentally kick to side, select another category, and have to start all over!), I managed to scroll the same list in about 25 seconds. Again, it actually requires intense concentration and continuous rapid movements to scroll it, but the time is reasonable.
Using my Harmony 650, there is no swiping and no accelerating scrolling. The same list, after 60 seconds I hit "I" (Iron Man). This is holding the down arrow continuously for 60 seconds of fairly slow scrolling. I figure the entire list would take nearly 3 minutes of scrolling, if I wanted to watch 2001 Space Odyssey.
There's literally no other way to get to the movie since searching (via Siri, or the manual search interface) won't include linked computer shares in the search results.
Since this (watching movies and TV shows in my own collection), and Netflix, are literally 99% of my ATV usage, I'm sad to say I'm going to have to return this ATV4 ... AGAIN. I really hoped it would work out this time.
But if it's going to require more than a minute of solid scrolling just to pull up any title farther down the list with the letter "I", I see myself never watching the bottom 2/3 of my collection!
Am I seriously the only one affected by this problem? I haven't seen anyone else reporting this issue.
