That's not a screen shot of the Vudu app. That's a screen shot of iTunes on ATV which sure can do HDR and 4k when things are working right.

My favorite movie review podcast, the Next Picture Show.
Don't suffer through Gamma D on your JVC. Optimize HDR Tone Mapping using Arve's tool & Masciola's test patterns instead (hints.)

If anyone is interested, I talked with Apple support about pausing and resuming movies on the ATV. I was told that the ATV doesn’t support resuming movies, TV shows yes. I have to start at the beginning and fast forward to where I was. I suggested that that might be something worth looking into.
FWIW.

Uh...that’s not true. Resume always starts me where I left off. I can go from one movie and return to where I left off on another.

Here are some images from the developer HUD (these were all snapshots taken with quick start off) - (settings-apps-Itunes).

The first 2 images were at 4K HDR 60Hz and the last 2 images were in DV @ 24 Hz for comparison.

Dolby Vision 24 Hz

Sorry some of the images are clipped a bit - this was my first chance to dig into the developer HUD and take a look at some of my 4K HDR & Dolby Vision Content I own (from iTunes).

I will be comparing later with quick start turned on (just from a user perspective I prefer it turned on, everything spools up much quicker).

I agree with robert - no trouble here at all resuming whatever content I wish, even if I switch from DV to 4K HDR, etc.

Thanks Robert.
Can you help me with my issue? Am I missing something in settings? I’ve looked at my settings and there isn’t anything about this.
I can pause and resume TV shows but not movies. Please tell me if you do something to get the resume feature to work for you.
Many thanks
Carter

Thanks WX. Same question for you. Can you tell me if I’m missing anything in settings and what you do to resume movies?
Many thanks in advance.

Hey Carter - are you using the Siri remote or your Harmony? Just curious.

I’m using a Savant remote and occasionally the Siri remote. I wonder if the Siri remote would make a difference.
Let me know and thanks very much for your help.

I don't know if this is going to be helpful or not but here is a link from Apple:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205305

I was thinking you could probably cook up some special sauce with your Harmony to get that remote to resume and pause movies whenever you want. My Harmony 950 works great just using the play/pause button.

I use a Harmony remote on a couple of ATV's and learned remotes on others -- and iTunes movies always remember where I was at when I last paused or stopped watching an iTunes movie -- even if it was on a different Apple TV (yes, we have four of them around the house -- one ATV5, one ATV4 and two ATV3).

Thanks for posting. This further confirms that disabling QuickStart limits one to 1080p content.

Quick Start is definitely a detriment.

I am going to look at things further with it turned off, and varying content Nathan.

I do have a Mac. And yes, I do know about the swipe. Thanks will look into it.
