Figured out how to get the video to play for .m4v files. If I press forward for a second the picture appears. Very annoying.

Another problem...every time I try to go to unidentified files, it kicks me back to the home screen.

There search does not even search your local music library so bottom line is there is no search.

no playlist creation on the fly

no genre or year support. just artist and album

no smart playlists

you can't hit play on artist and have it play all music from that artist like in XBMC

it doesn't use the folder.jpg art it appears

and the milkdrop visualizer is gone

no lyrics support I can see.

no crossfade support controls

no replay gain controls

and XBMC as much as I like it as a music player doesn't have something like genius built in.

Come to think of it. I'm not sure there is playlist support at all?

I have seen no menu options indicating any playlist support

you can't look at the most recently added songs or albums....

basically most of the functionality that a great music player should have is missing.

Thats sad because XBMC did all these things quite well and that's an area I expected to excel over NMT type players which have always had poor music support.

At least you can view a pictures slide show while listening to music

I think Music is next on the list They didnt focus on it which is obvious. I believe either in this thread or the other one there wwas a link to a comment they made on the issue. I believe in a future update we should see improvements in the music handeling. The primary focus on this release was the video. Of course with this wide release they are being put to the test with everyones different files, so there are bound to be bugs ...

some of this was in earlier boxee versions and was removed.

XBMC did ALL these things well and was very stable.

did get 2 for 2 on fancast streams and then 10 minutes later no go again.

I mirror these activies on my PC and it works flawlessly.

As it was said they focused on the video portion 1st, and probably removed certain music things to avoid issues they were not currently working on. You may see it come back at a later date. While Boxee is based on XBMC, it is its own application so especially now we should try to seperate the two. It does help though if XBMC does these things as it may make it easier to implement in future updates.

Just a heads up Boxee is blocking Hulu as well as vice versa. I read on Gizmodo that we may here something from Avner today about HuluPlus being "officially on board". The stipulation of course is that Boxee blocks access to Hulu Free (at least on the Boxee box).

Hulu Plus for Boxee Will Be Announced Later Today
Boxee is definitely getting Hulu Plus—under the condition Boxee removes all links to Hulu's free streaming service. Boxee's CEO is expected to confirm it later today, but until then that's making the new Box look even costlier. [AllThingsD]

hulu.com was blocked in the boxee browser at 08:00 MST for me today.
even gave me a nice notice that it knew i was using boxee and they hoped to offer content to boxee soon.

This is about the fifth or sixth time in just the last few hrs. that I've seen this direct comparison from you.
Boxee is a FORK from XBMC; this is not the XBMC box, nor was it ever promised to be. Love running XBMC? Me too, it's great; buy or build a HTPC.

some these features worked fine in boxee and they still removed them.

its not like these features did not work.

I doubt we will see them again. There was not a lot of reason to remove them in the first place and especially after they were working in boxee betas.

I think its simply a UI choice to keep it simple and limit the options. THat seems to be the biggest deisgn focus between boxee and XBMC projects.

I am very well aware but there are a lot us with XBMC backgrounds so it provides something of a reference. I already own a pile of HTPCs.

I think I kinda knew this a head of time, but is anyone else thinking this might be a good player for someone who wants online content, but maybe just a so-so player for local media? I'm having a huge time getting it it find more than 1 movie. Pic and Music are found, it seems, but again, buried in the Files section. Anyone else having seconds thoughts about this? I REALLY wanted to get rid of my HTPC and just have a simple box for the family to use, but this isn't at all shaping out how I had hoped.

Wow... I cannot believe all the issues of this device for as big of a launch as this was and having a major company behind it. Pretty disappointing!

Is it really that hard to regression test BD isos and Dolby True HD passthrough?!?

Its a license issue most likely with TrueHD, it may get fixed quickly...

No matter how much testing you do, whenever you go public there will be more bugs found. There are a lot of the same "few" issues in this thread posted about multiple times, I think thelist though is actually smaller then it seems.

Trust me, I hear ya, but you also have to realize that we're in the Networking, Media Servers & Content Streamers section of AVS.

All of these players, whether it's an Xtreamer,. a PCH, a Dune, etc. all promise to be revolutionary in that they will all provide everything anyone has ever wanted in a media streamer.

The reality is that there are both internal and external forces which tend to push these boxes out well before they're ready for prime-time. As an early adopter, all one can do is decide which company to place your trust in to fix early bugs in a timely and efficient manner...such is the dilemma for a media streamer enthusiast.

Has anyone begun compiling a list of reported issues?

Many of these issues are show stoppers, so it would be really nice to track their progress.

I also think a lot of these issues are a result of a combination of the large UI overhaul and a lack of large-scale bet testing of v1.0 specifically.

I'm really saddened by the state this box is in at launch...

for me it was the opposite - i was looking for something to handle local media and netflix like a champ and have a great UI. the online stuff was a great bonus. so far, for me it's failed at both. i was hoping this $200 box would save me from spending $350-$400 on a nettop htpc but it's looking more and more like that's the way i'm going to have to go. i'll probably give the netgear box a try next month and if that doesn't do it for me a htpc is being built.

I'm having this problem as well, on my other devices I need to select "HDMI Full Range" or "HDMI Expanded" to get the right black levels. Boxee, however, does not appear to have this setting. Best be an easy fix because this is a showstopper for me.

A UI question:

Does the highlight/selection "wrap around", ie, it appears the home menu is

Friends/Watch later/shows/movies/apps/files

If the highlight is on "friends" and you press the left cursor key - does the high light jump to "files" or does it stay where it is?

If a carpenter makes a door he should get money every time someone uses it - he's also an "artist".
