What beta firmware version do you have installed? I have beta firmware version 01.47.00.32.10 - I don't see much difference in this beta firmware than their "official" 01.46.00.32.10

Cheers!

I can confirm that it cannot playback WMV8 and older... It does playback WMV9

Regarding USB External HDDs:

I tried a 2TB USB WD Elements and a Seagate 2TB in a USB HDD enclosure and they both worked fine.

I tried a 3TB USB HDD which was formatted in MBR and it did not work - I had to format it into NTFS and then it worked.

They have a new beta firmware out version 01.48.00.32.10 and it improved the SAMBA and have added DLNA... pass-through/bit-streaming is now working... HD Audio pass through still needs some work.

Cheers!

No, Marvell 88DE3010 / 88DE3100 don't support 10b H.264 decode. However, the post processing pipeline is 10b. So, the amount of artifacting you see is a little bit lesser than Realtek's 'support'.

If you are looking for full 10b support, HTPC will be the only solution for some time to come (maybe for a year or so).

I can confirm what Jakmal stated is true too... I have a 1185 Realtek player and the Fusion XS does play the 10b files better, but not 100% perfect - still really watchable though... there were some 10b files that the Realtek cannot play, but the FusioN XS can playback...

MKVs and any other file formats that are 720p with 16 reference frames plays fine...
MKVs that is 1080p with higher than 10 reference frames it is a hit and miss with the fusion xs at the moment...

Also I had a chance to test out the new beta firmware version 01.52.00.32.10, and now Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio is working and passing through to my Onkyo receiver... all the other HD Audio and regular Audio passes through too... I'm going to play with 5.1 FLAC once I have a chance.

Cheers!

Whats the image scaling/processing like with the Qdeo Technology? For me its one of the best features but very few folks mention it.

Thanks,
Paul

Right now Qdeo is on automatically and you can't configure it like Qdeo in a blu-ray player or A/V Receiver.

If you have a 48 inch or larger HDTV you really notice the image/video quailty -with Qdeo it is definately better than the Sigma and RealTek chipset players when I compare them side by side. Right now I think it is the only media player in the market that does video post processing - until the Sigma 8910 come out with VxP... Basically Qdeo and VxP work in similar ways.

Cheers!

It is still really watchable - most of the time it doesn't even have tearing or shading...

I just watched a 1080p 10bit of the new Gundam series... after the intro there weren't any tearing or shading issues for the rest of the episode... one other anime I saw some in the beginning and middle... basically for the entire 30 minute episode there were probably no more than 20 seconds of the weird coloring...I guess it depends on the encoder if it is done properly or the Qdeo trying to correct it...

Cheers!

Update... I recently tested a new firmware and they now have a MOD (Movie on Demand) feature using a derivative of PPLive/PPTV!! Been testing it late at night and early this morning and there were no lags or issues so far during Hong Kong/China peak hours! Watching Anime in Chinese and some American movies that had chinese subtitles...

Cheers!

Any more updates on this player?

Was going to get a Popcorn Hour for anime (and movie) watching, but the whole not able to play 10-bit encoding scared me off. Does the XS still play 10-bit 'imperfectly'? Any newer firmware updates that have added more functionality?

They have new firmware in the pipeline, currently being tested and bugs are being (slowly) ironed out - no idea when the firmware will be released though.

Very frustrating, this player has great potential but as yet, that potential remains locked up.

so this Fusion XS is playing all DTS HD, TRUEHD and LPCM 5.1 files ? that is great

how long does it take to play different files from a folder; like if you are playing 1 file and you press next or if you stop and then select another file and hit enter, etc

If you are the same detriot1 from AVforums I would not recommend the Nixeus as a player for you. In my list of players it ranks below the A400 and I know how much you dislike the A400. The nixeus can play files but its trying to play files which is the bad part. They are not listed in alphabetical order or any order for that matter so out of a list of 700 movies it might take you 45 minutes to find the right movie its one of my biggest complaints about the box. If you are interested in buying one pm me

that is weird that it does not list in alphabetical order; very strange

the Marvell chip is supposed to be one of the very best on the market; that is one of the reasons I may be interested and this item is fairly cheap

does this player play files quickly?

During my time using it I never noticed any long periods of time. It could have been a nice player but seems they just did not have the resources to make it happen, its very unpolished

can you also explain specifically what it did not do right?

In my case, I am going to have folders that have m2ts, ts, mp4 files and I just want to be able to play them from external hard drive

the files may have DTS HD, TRUEHD, LPCM 5.1 or ac3

I for the most part played mkv/ with dts/truehd/dts-hd and it played everything fine, The SD material it played fine as well, Just to start a little when i first bought the player the day it launched i was expecting it to be like the demo version andatech had with tons of options and things like that.. To start bitstreaming was non working when I first got the player took a month and a half to fix that,

The file listing is the biggest issue besides it not being in any order sometimes it will not list everything if you have 800 movies in a folder it might only show 540 items its very hit and miss, I watch a lot of anime encodes as well and while not the best material they play on pch/dune/mede8er fine but the nixeus set a hard limit on mkv specs if its outside of normal content it just refuses to play it. IE if you have an mkv with 16 ref frames it just refuses to play with a message saying unsupported while the hardware is very capable of playing it. It has now been out for almost 2 years i think and there has been 2 firmware releases the most recent firmware only added a chinese streaming app or something.

mkv files cause problems with many media players; there is no reason to even use mkv. I have an HDX with Sigma 8642 and it plays every file with ease except mkv
I think the Popcorn hour also had some mkv issues

I will assume if someone is playing m2ts, ts, mp4, mpeg, this player should handle those files

I would disagree MKV is pretty much the best format for moving around players. You are thinking about older players that never got the update for compressed headers, m2ts has zero header information can cause issues for players that relay on them, same with ts also both are easily corrupted. MP4 is not bad but nearly not has many options as mkv and only made popular by the use in apple products,

Hey, got one of these for cheap, but I can't figure out how to make it see my thecus n3200xxx. I enabled Samba, but no luck. I have a popcorn hour a110, and it sees it through NFS server. I cannot figure this out at all... Any ideas? Is this capable, or will it only see PC's through sharing? At a loss here
