Ripping Blu-Rays II

Of course it's illegal. As is cracking current blurays. But tools exist for that and rips are readily available.
A company doesn't have to release a program to do it. Someone can anonymously dump the tools or the information out there and it would spread like wild fire. There's no stopping it at that point.

Streaming Devices: Nvidia Shield TV, 2x Roku 3's, 1st and 2nd gen chromecast, Amazon Fire TV stick 2nd gen, Apple TV 4, xbox 360, xbox one

Receivers: Denon X3300, Yamaha RX-V663. Bluray/UHD player: Oppo UDP-203
Retired - HTPC: Intel e6300 2.8ghz, Intel DG45ID, 2gb DDR2, Radeon 5570, MCE IR receiver

Those tools are provided by only two companies, as far as I know, (not counting MakeMKV) that have stated that they won't be pursuing decryption of AACS 2.0.

Yes. And if AACS 2.0 was cracked you'd see the tools in the wild. Two companies not pursuing it is irrelevant. The legality of it is irrelevant. That doesn't stop the decryption of any current protection scheme.
The CIAs own hacking tools were leaked and you can get them and I assure you that's highly illegal.

Even if only one group has the tools to decrypt AACS 2.0 you'd still see more rips and there just aren't. Sorry but it just doesn't add up.
I'm still going with leak.
I mean, a group finally cracks UHD and their crowning achievement is smurfs and la la land? Really?!

My guess is that because of the increased scrutiny by movie studios they are not yet able to market it and are keeping it to themselves. We'll see.

I'm thinking they don't have to market it. That puts a bullseye right on them. Just anonymously leak.

But yes, we will see.

Though we seem to be in agreement that there only 6 legit 4k releases thus far?

That's what I was saying from the beginning.
Cheers!

How does one determine that a 4K UHD rip is "legit" or not?

I mean, it is not like you can independently compare it to the original source.

He's 100% correct as I'm watching the regular Passengers Blu-ray with that awesome Dolby Atmos soundtrack right now!
