This reply is not very technical. I don't know too much about it. Here is what I know.
DIVA is a content management system, originally targeted to broadcasters. It allows you to put your TV episodes, news clips, commercials and anything else you might want to broadcast in a common archive and access it as needed.
Two of its selling points are infinite-scalability and worldwide distributed content.
From an architecture standpoint, it consists of tons of disk storage, communication links, a serious amount of software, and an enormous price tag.
