I got a mint conditions refurb a few weeks ago for $49, hard to beat. Actually dumped one of my Rokus - I much prefer the Wd unit.

Anyway, got a question. I picked up a Slingbox last week too, the Solo version got it for $15 delivered - not bad. I streamed to my WD but the picture was not full screen any ideas why? I am feeding it from an SD Dtivo in one of my bedrooms, not sure if the SD feed is the issue or if it's a settings problem or if it's just the way it displays.

Hello All,

I didn't know WD dropped Neflix on the new units. So I had to get a Roku 3 just for Netflix. R3 will not play DTS HD MA or Dolby TrueHD sound! So now I use the WD for the better audio and R3 for Netflix! Is there one unit taht does everything?

Yes the WD Live SMP 3rd Gen. It has Netflix and does HD Audio.

The 4th generation is actually still the 3rd generation hardware-wise and the latest Live-SMP update makes the UI the same as the the new WDTV-MP.

The only difference between the models is reflected in the spat between WD and Netflix that resulted in it's removal from the current product. So get the Live-SMP while it is still available at normal prices and you will get all the features plus Netflix.

Having a problem deleting a title. I deleted it via the wdtv live smp. And the folder keeps coming back. Just now, I deleted it from the wdtv. Then unplugged it. Went to my computer where the shares are and didn't see the movie. Then all of the sudden it reappeared. But the only files inside were there:

wdtv.cas2
wdtv.cas2_no_check_content_0090a9677d42

What's the deal? thanks guys.

checked the 30 minute mark on my PC this morning, no issue.

given that the issue happened every 30 minutes (almost exactly) I'm inclined to think the issue is heat related. I suppose I could hook up a laptop fan to the USB port. Weird that I never had this issue before.

My Live-SMP's sit by themselves and are just mildy warm to the touch when running. If yours is actually hot -- assuming they are not on top of a heat source -- then I would suspect something is wrong with the box.

It felt warmer than I would have expected but it wasn't like I couldn't hold it in my hand.

Not all changes made to the media library are immediately visible. Such is the case with file deletes.
After you delete files, you need to RESCAN the parent folder.

What I thought was a bad rip turned out to be a bad encoding job of the blu ray itself. Reviewers noticed the problem at the same time stamp.

Disc in question is 2 headed shark attack so ... not a big deal really... ha ha..

Kind of glad it was a actual disc problem not a problem with my process.

Well at least it wasn't Sharknado -- that would have been a real travesty.

Lavalantula is the new one coming out. It has the Police Academy gang fighting giant lava-spitting spiders coming out of a volcano. I know, not nearly as believable as Sharknado.

Sharknado 2 was not nearly as good. They didn't have that badass chick with the shotgun. She was the best part of the movie.

She certainly was. They need to get her for Sharknado 0 the prequel and have the details of how she got that scar.

Scientific study has shown that shotguns are not nearly as effective against flying shark attack as is a good chain saw. This is especially true in situations where you are swallowed by a dive-bombing Great White.

The context has always been ripping the disk to storage and playing it with the Live-SMP.

Follow Up - I watched Frozen with a laptop fan under the WDTV - no stops, no freezes. Will try Capt America 2 again to see if the movie freezes 30 min in like last time.

I got a set of those rubber adhesive backed feet & stuck them on the underside of mine, seems to help with a bit more airflow under it, haven't seen any heat issues.

You can't test for overheating with Frozen and Winter Solder... Watch Sunshine or Heat or something like that.

Winter Soldier froze (ugh, puns) again but in a later spot. Put my hand on the box - not warm at all - not sure what's going on now. Maybe just need to re-rip.

Also, Frozen has some absolutely AWFUL artifacting during the climax scene. Now I will grant you there was a lot going on screen with tons of detailed blowing snow and motion and all that but these are supposed to be uncompressed blu ray rips. Guess I need to watch the disc to be sure.

I have had some of the same issues with movies freezing - all random spots. One movie in particular was T2 - Judgement Day. I was able to finally get the movie to play without freezing by removing any and all subtitles from the movie rip. I know Cap 2 does have some subtitles and depending on which format you are using, see if you can remove any other ripped subs you don't need (ie - director commentary).
