Current setup:

Windows Server 2008 R2 server
Windows 7 media center PC
Xbox 360
Gigabit ethernet switch and router. All components wired with Cat5e. I do not use wireless.

The media center PC stores recorded TV locally on a hard drive within the PC. It is hooked to my home theater in my basement.
The server stores my movies, music and pictures and shares them over the network. I've added these libraries to my media center PC using UNC paths (ex. "\\\\server\\movies")
The xbox 360 is connected to a TV upstairs and is setup as an extender from my media center PC.

For some reason, my xbox 360 cannot access these shared libraries. It can access the recordedTV library stored locally on the media center, but it cannot access the libraries on the server. I was under the impression that the xbox did NOT communicate directly with the server, but rather ran off of the media center PC. I figured it would access the shared paths using the same xbox credentials that it uses to access the recordedTV.

The shared libraries are set to be shared to "everyone". Again, the media center PC works great, but when i try to access mymovies or another shared library from the xbox, it cannot find the share.

Any ideas?

Yeah this is known flaw it wont see network shares added to media center, there is some sort of workaround but I've long forgotten it the The Green Button forums would be the place to ask.

I've got Win 7 PC and my Xbox extender wouldn't work either. However, if I was to go to my video player in my Xbox menus, I would see my shared movie folders and I was a le to played them like that or by going to windows media player on the Xbox.

After a couple of days the extender worked by itself.

Any other ideas?

I would imagine anyone using MyMovies with WMC would have tried extending that functionality to other TV's.

I'd also imagine that most people would have centralized storage for their movies.

You need to create a logon script for the extender account so it can map the drives.

I'm not currently mapping the drives under the HTPC account.

Are you saying that the 360 needs to map network drives to access network shares and it can't simply access them through a standard UNC path:

\\\\server\\share

?

Let me ask you this then: Will I need to change the library locations on the HTPC from using UNC paths to mapped drives also? I hate using mapped drives, UNC paths are much more standard and reliable
