Does the Boxee Box, WDTV Live or others offer a 30 second skip forward / back control on any media types?

If not what PC software offers it ?

My PCH C200 does, so I would think the C300 and A300 would as well.

...

The Patriot Box Office (PBO) has 30sec fwd-skip and 10sec bkwd-skip. I prefer the shorter reverse, since I mostly use it for what_did_she_say or too_quick_subtitles or neat_action_repeat and 30sec would be excessive.

When I first investigated media players 2+ years ago, I was shocked at the lack of such a trivial (but useful) feature (TiVo had it last century [+30, -7]).

Another nice thing about having the different fwd & bkwd amounts is that you can create variations with remote control macros/sequences (Harmony et al). (On the PBO) Fwd-10 is Bkwd+Bkwd+Fwd. And, of course, if you really wanted 30sec reverse, it's Bkwd+Bkwd+Bkwd.

Ideally, there should be multiple pairs (like Dune) but they should be user-configurable (per button, not per pair), and dynamically so. Ie, by media type or location (podcasts vs Classical_Music).

Why is the beauty of software so often wasted??

Are there any newer players with this functionality? It strangely seems diffilcult to find...

The "newer" players are not worth your time.

MPC HC does. I set the scroll wheel to go 1 minute forward or 20 seconds back (you can assign any key combo). You can set the times to whatever you want. It appears VLC allows you to set hot-keys too.
