FYI to those purchasing, the 950 I just received from amazon has this serial number.

So far its working well with 2d and 3d playback. I've tested it with the Sony HW30, JVC RS55 and the Benq W7000. I used to have issues with skipping from an smb network share with the 900b that is now gone with the 950.

Jack. I got my 950 direct from the company and asked them some weeks ago if I would qualify for the exchange and wifi dongle offer, they said "absolutely"

So since I didn't buy mine from Amazon, how do people like myself and others go about making this happen?

Also, do you have a link to the wifi dongle itself?

There may be an issue with 23.976 3D playback, where the output is still 24Hz. 2D material plays fine. The same 3D file played in 2D mode is also fine. Just 3D mode is still wrong. There is a holiday going on in China, but the team is aware of it and working on it. I am not the authority on this, but I don't see why this wouldn't be a firmware fix. Stay tuned.

Does anybody know if the if the unit can play a BD ISO that is mounted on my computer(via virtual clone drive)?. I know that it is a odd thing to do, but I have many ISO stored that need to be mounted with Anydvdhd before watching.
This would be nice instead of a full HTPC in a room for occasional watching.

Thanks

They need to be mounted because you didn't remove the protection from it.

Yes, I know, I like to keep them in that state (now I can use Speedmenu on them, etc..,). At some point I may remove the protection, but for now I don't. I have been doing it this way for awhile, and do not feel like going through my collection yet (maybe someday ).

Allow to address to you with a request (on behalf of all sufferers from realtek): if there is a possibility, time and desire, help please in disclosure of the most important secret - what revision has a chip in the player of the "new batch"? For example, there is information that Asus O!Play TV Pro (fw 01.02.14) is not affected to 23.976 bug on such a chip, and in a defective players the such

If I select 1080p/60Hz output, does that mean that all framerates will get proper 3:2 pulldown for stutter free playback, or just 23.976? How about these framerates:

- 24fps
- 25fps
- 50fps
- 29.97fps

Will these all play stutter free in 1080p/60Hz output mode? I understand some of these framerates will still stutter if output is set to 24Hz, but how about 60Hz?

29.97 gets frame doubled to 59.94, so no issues there. But 24/25/50fps do not neatly translate to 59.94 so there will be some periodic frame doubling/dropping. However, this is not as noticeable at 59.94Hz than it is at 23.976Hz.

Thanks, Jack. So basically then do those other framerates stutter just like the original 23.976 stutter we were seeing but since it's 60Hz it won't be as noticeable? I remember with the original issue it was very hard to see the 23.976 stutter at 60Hz, but it was much more obvious at 24Hz. Is this the same situation here with these other framerates?

And I'm wondering if this can be solved, or will all media players have this problem? Does everybody have this stuttering issue with various framerates and nobody notices it? Or do they just live with it? I had no idea there would be this issue with different framerates with these players.

It's known that the player automatically switches between 23.976/24.00Hz and possibly even between 59.94/60.00Hz as Sigma based players.

That is correct. This is because at 59.94Hz, each frame takes up about 17ms, and a frame being doubled extends that frame out or another 17ms or so. 17ms is a short enough, especially with typical movie material, where it is not easily seen.

23.976Hz frames takes up about 42ms. This is more than twice as long as the frame in 59.94Hz.

The request is in to adjust output frequency depending on source material. I don't know if this will be available with the EP600 G2 or EP950, but we will make an effort to investigate and try. To be on the safe side, I would recommend prospective buyers to not count on this being available as a firmware upgrade in the future.

I have not tried to do this with embedded PGS subtitles on a BD title. I'll send a note for this to be tried and see what the results are.

For those that are in a similar situation of not being able to initiate the exchange through the "Contact Seller" link in their Amazon order page, or if they did not order through Amazon, please send me a PM and I will help you get it set up.

This is true if the TV's dejudder (smooth) processing isn't activated. I made a high-speed shooting at 240fps of stuttering moments in 24 and 60Hz modes with enabled/disabled of the TruMotion LG 42LD550, which can be clearly seen the failure of a dejudder processing at micro-freeze:
http://narod.ru/disk/47768981001.2ce...ming).rar.html
(complete records and test videos here http://forum.ixbt.com/topic.cgi?id=60:3348-12#348)
I do not presume to speak for all models of TV, but on many TV with dejudder processing the stutterings appear stronger against a background of smooth movement.

Jack one thing I'm wondering if possible, I noticed when I had the player originally, when I played flac or ape files, there was a momentary gap of silence when it went to each new audio track, and that was unfortunate when playing some of my cd rips because some of my CDs have tracks which flow from track to track with no gaps in between, which means you hear no silence between tracks, but the player seemed to have a brief pause of silence for about 1-2 seconds between each track, which ruined the flow of the music. I don't remember if it happened on mp3 tracks also but definitely on flac and ape files.

When I play those same rips on my pc with various software it flows smoothly from track to track with no interruption. I was hoping Micca could take a look at this since I would be using this often to play my music.

I'm hoping the 23.976 output issue gets fixed for 3D playback soon as well.

I should mention that it was connected to my receiver. I have one theory as to what might be happening but it's only a guess - it seems to take my receiver about a second or 2 to pick up digital audio when I start playing media. If the Micca keeps the audio signal flowing then it's not a problem, but if it actually stops playback for a second, which cuts off the audio signal to my receiver, and then starts the next track, it then takes another second or 2 for my receiver to grab the audio again, which cuts off the first second or 2 from the track. Is there any way the player can keep the audio connection between tracks so the receiver doesn't "reset" between each track?

And thanks again for continuing to address our concerns in this forum. It goes a long way to showing me that Micca is dedicated to their products. There's nothing worse than a company who quickly dumps a product on the market and then offers no support for it. I have looked at other media players and so many of them have huge support forums with lots of bug reports that go completely unanswered and unresolved even months after reporting. I'm very happy to see Micca trying to do everything possible to get the bugs worked out of this player.

I have a question about the availability of the EP950. I know the new units are available on Amazon but I noticed that they are still not available on other online retailers like the Micca Store (which is supposed to be the factory store) and Adorama Camera. Any idea when other retailers will get them? I have been on backorder with Adorama since the beginning of March because they stopped all shipments because of the problems until they get the new stock (I give them a lot of credit for that!) and to date have still not heard anything on when the new units will be available.

Should I cancel this order and order from Amazon or will they be getting the new units any time soon?

Greetings!

This device is very intriguing to me. I'm in the process of building my theater and have been looking to purchase an Oppo 93 but in the interest of saving some coin the Micca is very appealing. I do have a BD writer in my desktop PC so ripping discs won't be an issue.

I'll only be doing 2D since 3D gives me a migraine after about 15 minutes. An Oppo is a lot of player and has a lot of features I wouldn't be using. My projector is a RS-40.

Can anyone comment on the picture quality of the Micca vs. an Oppo or a mid-range BD player? If I'm reading things correctly the timing issues only seem to be effecting 3D playback and 2D is not an issue.

Good thread and nice to see someone from Micca here listening to owners and helping take care of issues.

Thanks!

I'm hoping that a new manual gets written for this unit, and soon. It needs one desperately. There's so many things that are not covered in the manual, and with all the features this player offers, it really does need a complete manual, especially since there isn't even an official support forum. For instance, I had great difficulty even trying to figure out how to transfer files from Windows 7 to the internal drive (USB? Samba?). I really think an official support forum would help immensely. I'm glad we have this thread and that Jack keeps communication open - it's the key to good product support.

I'm wondering what subtitle formats are supported? I don't remember if I saw that listed anywhere or not - I just checked the website and it doesn't list supported subtitles.

And is there any chance that this player will be able to eventually support forced subtitles for 2D and 3D? That's an important feature that I'd like to see supported. Many films contain forced subs (2012 comes to mind as a recent title I saw with forced subs for a few parts), especially sci-fi with alien languages (Star Trek films, Avatar, etc.).

I agree, we need a good manual. Does anyone know how to get the album cover icons for iso's of films and music. I do a scan and nothing happens. I have checked my network connection. Probably just missing something small. I am having this issue with an external usb drive and I wonder if the media icons will only work when I install an internal hard drive.

Jack,
I also ordered from Adorama Camera and they only state new batch will be available late April, early May. Its early may and there is no update from Adorama. When will suppliers outside of Amazon get the new batch?

Thanks
