Started this thread before some of announcements came through (thought GTV 2.0 was a Marvell exclusive, but looks like MediaTek will also be there):

Not a GoogleTV box but an Android set top box, it is using the earlier Marvell 88DE3010 chipset the new Google TV's are using the latest Marvell 88DE3100 chip. GoogleTV and Android re-purposed for TV's are quite different.

Do these have the power to run high bitrate mkv's that the Pivos boxes and some Dune boxes choke on? This seems like a cleaner/cheaper option to run XBMC on instead of building an HTPC.

As far as I know XBMC won't run on Google TV. Plex does and it is very nice.

I believe XBMC has been ported to Android and runs on the Pivos box. After reading above that the Google TV's are switching to ARM processors from x86...is it safe to say XBMC will make its way onto a googleTV sooner than later?

I'm just not familiar enough with the chips mentioned above and if they can handle the "high" bitrate mkvs.

Just because something runs on Android does not mean it will run on a Google TV. XBMC is one example. My Sony GTV2 box handles very high bitrate files.
