Yes.

I am just going to be patient and wait. I have a realtek 1186 player that can do 3D Blu-ray (although buggy) to hold me over

Cheers,

thats why I am doing a rebuild of the 900b to tide me over--dont mind waiting a year if all works well and would be great a new smart series too.I put a thin 90mm fan under the hdd cage in my base 3.0 and the hdd's come out cold after a 2 hour movie.I put a fan controller in it to and its dead quiet and cool.I will be doing it to all media players I get in the future. Thats why I didnt get the H1 because of being in a confined box.If I have too will build a whole new case and hardware like I have with the 900b.I like it now having hdd's come out cold--I have been converted

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken

Yeah, I heard about the Armada which I believe is supposed to handle full 3D Blu ray (including menus), but I haven't seen any players and would be concerned how well it performs (in the sense of possibly being immature/buggy since you don't exactly see a lot of Marvell media players)

Cheers,
Damian

Is that truth we have to wait until next year to actually see 8910 products? I wonder and hopefully it's not the case...

Well Google is moving away from Intel based chips and will start using the Armada 1500 for all Google TV devices. Last week at CES they were showing reference media players. With Google backing the chip I think you will see a big effort put into making sure this thing works good. Also, the Armada 1500 supports Open GL 2.0 and 3D graphics which should allow it to run XBMC. Sigma better be ready with the 8910 because there is going to be some stiff competition out there. I think in the end its a win/win situation for the consumer with the competition. Sigma will have to make the 8910 chip with VXP affordable.

Now even 3010 is able to handle 3D Bluray, such as ASUS BDS-700 and OPPO-93/95.

But do the Marvell Armada chip support NFS or Samba networks? I only heard it use DLNA for connection to network files.

Does DLNA even support playback of Blu-ray folders or ISOs? I honestly never use DLNA/UPnP due to its many limitations.

I know on Oppo's BDP-93 & 95, you can't do ISO over DLNA. DLNA/UPnP in theory sound capable, but implementation so far not so.

I see the ASUS BDS-700 on eBay now for $470 shipped. Too bad I can't find any reviews for it yet. Also, this player has no SMB or NFS support. So, it would be like the Oppo BDP-93, playing ISO via USB or eSata, and about the same price.

Call em leary of any player that is only offered via one ebay seller and no real-world user reports...just saying.

Aside from that... it looks like an Oppo clone and I cannot see in the User's manual if it even plays back multi-channel FLAC in MKV which is one thing that the Oppo does not do.

End of rant :-) lol

Don't you think they want to?? It's out of there hands right no. Sigma is having issues with the 3D aspect. And after coming from a unit that is super buggy and plays the wrong eye on 3D movies, I font think I want another unit with a SoC jammed in and me being the test pilot! It's gonna be awhile and there are no units out there with the 8910!

My setup consist of a sc37 and HX929 tv and between the 3D iso and the SBS MKV me and who ever else watched them could not tell the difference in PQ. I'm not saying there isn't any just not noticeable. It's kinda like DVDFab you can take a 35-40 GB movie and compress it down to a 25gb movie and the PQ is not really noticeable. I only have a few 3D movies so the SBS option is perfect for me. Plus Dune has great support and Mike it seems will bend over backwards to make you happy!

I was told at CES that Dune went to Sigma and said WTF we need the 8910. You guys are not the only chip maker out there! So maybe Marvell? But I think they are trying to light a fire under Sigmas ass to get on the ball! Also I guess it should be said that we want the 8911 which does not support the macrovision!

Dune said the Pro would probably ship in June/July based on what they knew about the 8910. Of course they could have been snowing me, and when I dropped in on Sigma they said they just had to make some tweaks (probably were misleading me), but wouldn't say anything beyond that.

Will be interesting to see what gets done. I know Syabas believed this was wishful thinking to get an 8910 player out anytime soon, but obviously being competitors who knows, and I am sure no one wants to tip their hand

There is two ways to look at it. If it does come june/july we can almost bet it will be full of bugs sigma has never released a fully working sdk/chip at launch, If they are truly trying to get into into $2000+ market, It wont be out june/july as no one dropping $2000+ on a media player will go for bugs so they have to make it bug free from the start.

Marvell does support samba but not for iso unless it has the BD license But the marvell sdk is far worse then any sigma sdk, passthrough audio does not work at all on the newest armada 1000 sdk, I would wait at least a year before looking at another marvell product this is there first push into media world to fix all the kinks,

The main thing to watch for is things like the Armada 510 based CuBox coming out. They are getting fast enough and cheap enough to make a low powered silent xbmc box,

I know a few pages back we talked about Kaleidescape in relation to the Dune Ripper module. I had heard that is was likely the ripper module would not be offered in the US. Well, looks like Kaleidescape isn't out of the wood either...

Very true, Cinavia, drm, companies trying to lock out features depending on where you purchased your player, etc.... TBH I am not overly optimistic for 2012, but hope to be proven wrong

Just read some interesting news on mpcclub. quoting hi-jack

Quote:

We hope 2012 will become a better year but this is doubtful as latest rumors have it that also SMP8910 is suspended and will never launch (in favor of yet another chip).

Hi-jack usually has some pretty solid inside information so wonder what this means for the dune pro

The Dune Pro was never going to make it to market. It was just a proof of concept that they seem to put out every year at CES.

I had a long talk with Mike at Dune and he told me basically the 8910 will be offered in the pro and out possibly in the first half of next year. He said also possibly the 86xx series will get the 3D and possible the VXP processing. And this is what's likely to go into the smart series and max series players.
