I've visited their support site and the last firmware release is from 06/08/12 (3.4.3.0) which is still in beta,
with all the problems I'm reading I would hope there would be continueing firmware updates to correct these issues.

Could I get some advise from current owners of this product (would you recommend it at this point).
I have also looked at KDLINKS HD 700(built in Wifi and BD menu support)
but I favor this product because it can support an internal HDD.

Thx
Amazon purchases were never eligible for the MIR any way.
Depends on your usage, I don't use 3.4.3.0 any way, just stick for with SO R22, which has more bells and whistles than 3.4.3.0
Presentation will be lacking in comparison with something like XBMC (you can make it look good, but not as good).
UPnP is problematic with some servers (where order is messed up, and you click on a title but the title next to it gets played).
Not optimized for audio access (supports m3u lists but missing features like playlist creation from the interface, or a proper audio jukebox).
Available movie jukeboxes are not optimized for TV shows.
Still a good option to consider as an HD-Audio bitstreaming capable device compatible with most of the manistream encoding profiles.
Might want to go through amazon for no question asked returns if you don't like it.

I'm not sure what problems you're referring to but it really depends on what media you want to play.

I see your current media player supports BD 1.0 menus, not BD 2.0 which I think is the new standard.

The latest semi-official firmware was released a few days ago. I don't think too many owners use the official firmware.

Thanks for the quick response, so there is continuing support on this product as far as new firmware releases?

I feel I would be happy with this product if it works as advertise, but the review I'm reading mention the following issues:

1. Fan too small causing HDD to over heat and possible fail
2. screen freezing
3. rebooting
4. internal HDD not being recognized

Excluding item # 1, do you know if the latest firmware resolved any of these?

It's here: http://www.pivosforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=434

I have had my Pivos for while and love the fact that it does everything I want. I only have 1080p content which looks great through the Pivos.

Thanks for the input, I have order this from NewEgg for $80 plus $10 rebate.

Are there any links that will help me setup the jukebox?
What software is being used to rip BD that will retain the movie navigation menu?

Thx for the help.

As far as I know, there is no media player that supports full BD 2.0 menus which require Java. These are some that may do it but they are not going to cost as little as the Pivos.

To rip the entire disc, you can use AnyDVD or DVDFab.

I have used an internal HDD (2TB Samsung) since the AIOS purchase about a year ago and have never experienced any of these problems and I live in subtropical SW Florida..

How about is there any freeware that will rip BDs regardless of menu?

You could try makemkv but it may not work with newer releases with updated protection.

other than BT functionality, what are (if any) benefits of using internal HDD as compared to external USB-connected HDD? 4TB external is available cheaper $/gb with backup s/w (say Seagate Backup Plus) compared to say WD Green internal. External 4TB can be used for more purposes than a 2TB internal. And hence the question.

I only use 2.5" portable drives with my Pivos. I thought about using a 3.5" external drive but that required another power outlet and having to move the drive and power adapter to my computer to copy files. Too much trouble for my liking.

I have a portable on which I copy content for viewing from a large external connected to my desktop.

Is the external USB 3.0?

Are you on the latest SO firmware ? you can configure transmission to run on external HDDs.
You just have to make sure the HDD is mounted on the same location each time (I have made fstab writable so you can do this).

it's a little geekspeak for me. can you please elaborate, or refer to any pivos forum how-to. also, no direct reply to me so far.. so i assume no significant benefit using internal 3.5 vs external 3.5?

Maybe with high-bitrate files.

With MakeMKV, you could rip the entire disc in a BDMV folder format and then use TSMuxer to remux the main movie in a BDMV folder format. The Pivos handles BDMV folders without any problems at all.

If you want to stick with an mkv format, try a few and see how it plays. If it stutters, you can use TSMuxer to remux it to an m2ts format.

I've been ripping all my media center captures from my HD HomeRun prime to MKV and I'd say 99 percent play fine, the few that don't seem to have glitches introduced while editing the native media center file down to MKV. My captures are broadcast 1080i and 720p and play nice and smooth with full audio support and all that. I use MKV because it's slightly smaller then the original and just seem to work OK with this and my WDTV Live I also have and it doesn't seem to loose any quality, just plays.

MakeMKV is not freeware for BDs "You may use MakeMKV to convert or stream DVD and AVCHD discs for free, as much as you want. Converting or streaming Blu-ray discs is shareware functionality. You can use shareware functionality for free during 30-days trial period. If you like MakeMKV and you want to use it after your 30-days trial version expires, you need to purchase a registration key."

I purchased a license for MakeMKV over 2 years ago and haven't paid much attention as to whether it's still "free while in beta" or not - but isn't it still 'free and in beta through May 2013' as stated here on the MakeMKV site... http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053&sid=7f578c4bdeb6980bc191fe1007f6a600

MakeMKV seems to constantly be in beta. When will there be a final release? I really don't know.

Agreed - it's been 'Many moons' that it remains in beta... but using it as much as I did (and still do) without hardly any issues, is why I purchased a license without worrying if, Mike, the Dev. will keep supporting MakeMKV

I've had zero issues with mine (purchased from Amazon in February 2012), but it's bone stock, and I don't ask much of it. Play the file; good boy.

Are there any smartphone apps that allows you to control and browse the AIOS content without having to switch on the TV ? eg. selecting an internet radio stream, playing files on the internal HDD ?
