Lets start from the begining... I hacked my Wii to be able to play AVI files from my PC to my TV, this was going well but most of the video's whee chopie and blockie, for xmas my wife got me a Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-Ray player, my TV is a Samsung 720p HDTV Plasma (i know blu-ray will not show it full potential on a 720p tv, but i got the tv 3 years ago).

Right now i have alone like 50 of my 300+ dvd's copied over to my hard drive on my PC, So before i get to far i have a few questions...

1) What is the best program to convert DVD/Blu-Ray to your hard drive for playback?
2) What Format is the best to convert to AVI, MP4, H264 ??
3) What is the best aspect ratio to use ??
4) How do i convert and be able to keep the same quality on my 50" Plasma ??

Thanks for any help with this.
I hope i put this in the right thread or even the right kinda forum.

With the Samsung player you got a few options for best quality.

1) Rip the DVD with MakeMKV.

This extracts the DVD main movie to a .mkv container with no conversion so you have original video and audio in mkv container, however not all players support mpeg-2/mkv so it may not work.

2) Rip the DVD to HDD as video_ts then process with VOB2MPG.

VOB2MPG does the same thing as MakeMKV but the output is a .mpg file.

3) Convert into x264 video, this will give the best quality for compression, use Handbrake to convert any of the above.

Keep in mind also that when using a DLNA server like Mezzmo or Serviio with the Samsung BD player it will transcode the video if the player cannot play it.
