I'm constantly getting "Error: Format is not supported" when trying to play basic MKV files. I'll try with my Popcorn Hour or computer and the file plays fine. What is going on with Dune lately? Is this player falling apart on me, because this just starts to happen all of a sudden.

Can you post a Mediainfo file output on the mkv in question?

Any changes to your supported video resolution settings on the Dune?

Cheers,

I just formatted my computer so I'm in the middle of reinstalling everything. The MKV files that I couldn't play I will get a mediainfo query on them and post it up. Like I said, I was able to play them with my Popcorn and Computer. It is not the norm, that is why I even posted something. Usually the Dune has no problem at all.

Very strange here. I'll get not supported file a couple of times and if I keep hitting play on the same file it will eventually start to play. I play %100 off my unraid server and I just upgraded to the BETA RC3 version which I think is the problem. Soon as I move/copy the file to an external drive or locally to the Dune player, the file plays %100 of the time just fine. Solving issues like this with unraid is very difficult.

Well here is an MKV file that my Dune cannot play. It plays just fine on my PopcornHour. Here is the mediainfo. Maybe some experts can take a look and see something?

Not surprising. The me mode is backbreaking tesa on top of all those other options - subme at 10? and on top of all that you have 12 reference frames. Can you post a sample? I'll see if my Micca player can play it.

Yeah, the 12 reframes is what sticks out

I don't have any software that can break it up and grab a portion of it. Unless there is some really good free stuff out there? This also makes me think in making an HTPC. Since VLC and my computer can play this fine.

Just use mkvmerge, you can split files. DGSplit is another free option

To get a clean MKV, demux via MKVExtractGUI2, then remux via MKVMerge. You'll want to type in 23.976 for FPS for the video track.

Is this via network or USB attached drive. If its via network then you may want to double check your share permissions. When I get these types of errors I usually just reset all my share permissions (including all registry hacks that you may have done in the past) and check your sharing options. That usually does it for me.

BTW, I get these types of errors every single time there is a major security updates via Windows update. They seem to revert the permissions and network settings back to default and break any changes you have made to make the Dune work with Windows.

If you use unRAID then you may want to double check your permissions but I am not knowledgeable in it to say that is 100% the error with that.

The files reside on an unraid box. I changed file permissions to "777" for testing. Same result. I'm going to try and grab a piece of the MKV for others to try.

Here is the sample. It is 10MB. Let me know if your player can play it.

I did this exactly what you said and I was able to play the file just fine. Thanks for the tip. I hope not many MKV files need this.

This was my fault. My TV doesn;'t support I think 50Mhz and I had it set to 24/50/60 Mhz. Soon as I changed it back to 24 and 60 only, it worked fine.
