I have a pc running Windows 7 with 12TB, sharing folders on the drives through Windows shares, which if not mistaken, I believe are Samba.

PC is not used for anything else but that.

Have you tried a different HDMI cable? Or manually setting the resolution on the mede8er sounds like an hdmi sync issue

"pc running Windows 7 with 12TB, sharing folders on the drives through Windows shares, which if not mistaken, I believe are Samba. "

There are many posts on the Mede8er forum about an NFS client that folks use on their PC based media servers that gets rave reviews. I don't need it. I use NAS's with NFS ability and don't keep a PC running.

But if I did use a PC base for my media server I'd be looking at it. It apparently streams better than Samba.

I do think it is HDMI issue but still worth making sure your network is streaming as best it can.

What's the naming requirement for this thing to recognize 3D movies?

Wreck-It_Ralph.SBS.mkv is an example. Just put in .SBS. in the title and it will recognize that it's a 3D movie.

Anything new from Mede8er either announced or rumored? Was going to pull the trigger on an 800 a couple months back and then our baby arrived ahead of schedule. Just starting to get back into a somewhat normal existence...but don't want to buy soon to be outdated tech. Thanks.

I'm curious as well. I'm hoping that they'll release a player with a more advanced jukebox and proper subtitle support. They're a fine company, if it weren't for those two issues I'd have one of their players now instead of an HTPC.

Looky here!

Nothing new is announced. Realtek has not announced any new chipsets either for an stb, Sigma has announced its 4k ARM based chipsets due out at the end of the year. So would most likely see a dune or PCH model running it maybe Mede8er will jump over there as well most I bet will be quiet until IFA in September

I thought Realtek was done with the hardware for media players?

Wouldn't any product anyone let alone Mede8er introduce have to be some other platform?

I did an 800X3D not because it is the latest and greatest. I did it because it works and is supported and is available. It isn't vapor ware.

Coulda used a price a just under 200 instead of just over. It has value and paying for value is of course appropriate. Feels more like 189 or 195 value however......

Glad I have the 800X3D though.

^^ that has been the rumor going on 2+ years now with nothing new released. There was someone in this thread or on this forum that kept calling everyone a liar about the rumor saying wait and see realtek is coming with something. Forgot who it was but he never said a source So I would take it with a grain of salt. They did announce some tv chipsets but nothing in the stb line.

Sigma announced the SMP8756 which is HEVC and 4k. then they also announced what looks like a buduget chip the SMP8734 which is not 4k. The later is due out end of this year the 4k chip is due q1 2015 they both run linux or android.

I just received my 1000X3D the other day and must say I am loving it!!! I haven't jumped on the 4K train yet and it will be awhile till I do so 1080P with 3D is all I need at this time. Still trying to get the covers and the for music files to show correctly but everything I have thrown at it plays.

I had a Patriot Box Office Core prior which will go into the bedroom and only problem I had with that was the discontinued firmware updates and it will not pass HD audio other then that it played almost everything I threw at it. I am also digging the orb design as it stands out with from all my other components.

I'm getting ready to buy a few more, I've had the 1000 over a year and it's my favorite media player since the PCH-A110 days. it handled my 3D movies with no issues.

thank you i tried to quickly go through the whole thread and somehow missed it.

with the 600 i guess i can use a external usb hard drive will the speeds be faster with the internal 800 or 1000 reading from the drive then the 600 through usb or does it not seem to matter.

other than the dune is this pretty much king of the hill right now? would the dube hd tv303d be the direct competitor to this?

just saw one more thing im not sure of can i use any pci wifi card if i already have one or do i have to use theirs?

last which do you guys prefer the 800 or 1000 i like the fanless design of the 1000 but imo i think i prefer the looks of the 800 so just being curios here

The 600 has no internal hard drive capability.

All models use same firmware AFAIK.

Still glad I have the 800X3D but starting to bump into some stuff that makes me wonder if the extra cost for the Mede8er products is worth it.

Here's an example.

The internal scraper is probably the best I've ever seen. Really easy to use. Easy to edit. Obviously a lot of work has been done on it.

BUT it doesn't create the movie_name.jpg. So if Kill Bill Volume 1.mkv when you use the internal scaper it doesn't make Kill Bill Volume 1.jpg.

As a result some of the simple movie walls do not display the mkv associated jpg. It can't, there is no jpg to display.

Even Thumbgen using Mede8er templates, we're talking Thumbgen here-open source-simple-been around a long time, creates the movie_name.jpg. Previous media players I've used also create the movie_name.jpg.

Not having it is not a big deal. However it would be nice to have all the types of movie icons needed so as to have the end user on screen display be as complete as it can be. The default movie name icon is not set in stone and having the movie icon display completes the movie wall look and feel.

I let support know on the Mede8er forum.

I was told I can gladly make the missing icon myself or use Thumbgen.

Which again is fine. If I have to do so glad to do so.

Why did I pay the extra dollars to have a product with a well developed internal scraper IF I have to make this simple graphic image, a graphic image even the likes of Thumbgen creates, myself? Why pay 225 dollars and be back to square one using Thumbgen?

It is a small matter. Absolutely. But at the end of the day the justification for the extra money for a product like the Mede8er products is small matters have been attended to and end users have a more complete end user experience.

If I have to do these kinds of things myself, I might as well buy a KDLinks 1186 product.

It is this kind of thing that starts to add up and makes spending the extra money for an X3D uncertain.

One pix after using the internal scraper. The other after I manually created the movie_name.jpg.

Added the file folder listing. Some times it is easier to see a thing than explain it. Internal scraper no Kill Bill Volume1.jpg created.

Yeah, I'm still on the fence on that one too.
I still use thumbgen. The internal scraper is great, but it doesn't list any of the metadata for the movie itself. The other thing that bugs me is that there is no trailer link on the movie page (about.jpg). Of course it's just a jpg so it can't but my old boxee scraped as well as my mede8er does AND it gave you an active trailer link right on the main movie page.

It's a good little machine, but I'm thinking my boxee was better in some respects even though it was outdated and discontinued. It was cheaper too.

That's the thing. It is a great unit. The question of value is different in terms of the cost/features above and beyond does it work. KDLinks products seem to "work" if that's all I was looking for.

I don't particular appreciate the response for support either. They want to act as if their product does not include a price premium. A price premium that is justified precisely for these extra features and support.

They can't on the one hand ask for a higher price and then on the other act as if they are powerless to impact these kinds of things.

The unit does work well.

Two reasons why I don't buy Mede8er:
1) No forced subtitle support.
2) Jukeboxes aren't plug and play compared to Zappiti or 10Muse.

Mine does forced subtitles.

Avatar, Monuments Men, etc., all work fine. Lord of the Rings fine. Pans Labyrinth but for it I do the full subtitles and listen to the Spanish 7.1 DTS HD audio codec. So it isn't "forced".

Either DVDFab and MakeMKV and "Forced Subtitles" option work just fine......

Having trouble with Kill Bill's and forced but VLC isn't playing them either so that is more about how I'm archiving them. And as I read across the great wide web Kill Bill and its forced subtitles can be problematic. Might have to pull them out as an external file and then add them in using MKVMerge.

I don't do Jukeboxes. I find them more trouble than they are worth. I prefer simple movie walls that are created via Network-NFS shares-Favorites on these Realtek boxes. The scraper grabs all but the movie_name.jpg for the simple movie wall.

No it doesn't, not properly anyway. Your presumably using the same band-aid fix that everyone else is using. With sub-titles off in the player settings the forced subs should come on anyway as that's the way it's intended, an integral part of the movie. Your forced subs will not be displayed if you turn off this setting...unless of course your encoding your movies and burning in the subs at which point the setting doesn't matter one way or the other.

With the sub-title setting on it defaults to playing the first subtitle stream of the movie. Make another sub-title stream first and you'll see that it does not play the forced.
