Thumbs down Stay away from Mede8er

I have had my mede8er 1000x3D for sometime now. I would strongly recommend anyone planning to commit the same mistake to stay away from this one.
As far as features are concerned this one is pretty much same as any other. However on the failure side here are a few:
- Product claimed support for 4 TB HDD (recently they changed to 6 TB). I tried a 4 TB disk and it worked decently till it was half full. When your disk fills up to anything beyond 2 TB, the system gets terribly unstable and starts crashing. Don't know about 6 TB disks.
- Jukebox is a horrible experience. Assuming that you are using 4 or 6 TB disk it is implicit that you have a large collection of movies, and there is absolutely no way to create box sets or group your video wall in any decent way. People have taken various workarounds like movie naming convention, etc. But your video wall is still cluttered and unusable.
- Network access is extremely slow. Even their USB 3.0 does not transfer files at speed greater than 55 MBytes/sec. Any other standard USB 3.0 external disk copies file from the same laptop at speeds > 110 MB/sec
- System crashes/hangs pretty frequently.

If it matters to anybody, my firmware version is 3.0.3.

All the best.

My network access is fast and enough for streaming 3D ISO.
I usually call the mede8er player the swiss army knife of media player, since it reads every single file out there.

Lastest Mede8er firmware beta version is 3.0.7 beta

http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.ph...c,15892.0.html

Its nice to have a media player like mede8er that was released in september 2012, and after 2 years and 5 months up to now, still see firmware releases...

Lets see some other media player brands in the business:

Popcorn A-400 or A-410 - latest firmware august 2014
Dune base 3d - latest firmware 27-august -2014

+1... Mede8er are the best in this market. Hoping they have something new (hardware) up their sleeve though.

forced subtitles fixed yet?
subtitles always on while playing over DLNA fixed yet?

Jukebox firmwares are nice. But misleading NMJ was deployed for the last 4 years while mede8er jukebox is one year it should still be getting updates. as NMJ did for 4 years. same with dune and zappiti zappiti still gets updates but it was also around for 4years so its more solid and does not need updates. all firmwares have been jukebox/api fixes last thing that fixed subtitles for srt was like march 2014. I think the jukebox is little to late though. Almost everyone is going kodi or plex now the standalone jukebox options are more a thing of the past with people having multiple types of devices now.

If they fixed my two biggest issues which are posted above it would be great.

Good point on forced subs... this won't be fixed as it's a Realtek issue & they've moved on. Wanted to like A400 (got it at launch & later, but eBay'd them off), but high bitrate, especially 3D ISO's, never played stutter-free for me. May have been a compatibility thing between PCH & Synology.

I didn't mention that the jukebox is slow. My pain point is the inability to organize my movies in proper box set format. I think that is a bare minimum that a jukebox should have. In my case all my 450+ movies get cluttered on the same video wall. I think there is enough criticism, even on mede8erforum about the lack of this feature. Look at Dune yaDIS, beautiful support for properly organizing movies and tv series. Wish mede8er was even close.

Regarding your system not crashing, which firmware version are you on? Also, read somewhere that the sleep feature of the new firmware spins down the HDD even when things are getting copied through USB. Somebody on the forum has claimed corruption of HDD because of this. I will be a little concerned about this too.

Still loving my 2x Mede8er 600X3D's

Question, they are still on v3.0.6 firmware.

What is the latest stable firmware. v3.0.7 or v4?

Edit: Looks like it is v4. Should I just update to v4.0.1 Beta since it looks like they made some subtitle tweaks?

I'm having an issue with my MED1000 since having to get a new modem/router:

My MED1000X3D (V 3.05) is connected via cable to the same router I am accessing with my notebook over wifi connection.

The problem: in my Windows File Explorer I can see the MED box among 'Media Devices' and among 'Other Devices' but I cannot see it among 'Computers'.

The result is:
  • I can't play media stored on the MED box from my notebook
  • I can't copy files from my notebook to the MED box over the network
