Has anyone opened up a Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive (Model DRD00F2). I tried the online videos, but none appear to cover this model of Seagate drive. I just received one and would like to put in in my DS412+. Any guidance appreciated!
being even the most careful anyone can be, the snaps inside these things will break, i think that is how seagate knows if they have been tampered with, i am pretty sure there is a tool that can open them properly, but i don't think anyone will have it.
Just cracked one of these myself (needed a 2TB for a customer and a USB3 adaptor for the workshop) — other than some scuffing on the edge of one of the enclosure halves, I was able to open it with some fair force and not have any tabs break.
The enclosure model was SRD00F2 (visually identical to the one in the Amazon link above), and the drive inside is a ST2000DM001.
I used guitar picks to gently pry the plastic tabs apart without breaking the tabs or marking up the plastic case. Just get a stack of them, 10 or so, and keep wedging them into the seams, eventually you will be able to pull the case open and the tabs will be in tact, if you are careful.
