Has anyone heard of DF solutions? It seems like an awesome media server but wanted to see if anyone has heard of these. I saw it on the AVforums board. But wanted to see if anyone was using one here in the states.

Never herd of it. A quick look looks like custom HTPC solution, For the cost might be easier to build your own.

It seems like a great product i like that you can hook up a NAS and it organizes it all for you. I'm pretty new to the whole media server realm so not to confident i could build my own.

The main part you need to know is if the software it runs is custom or an off the shelf solution if its an off the shelf solution then its not worth the money if its custom then it could be. A lot of companies make a unit then put software like windows media center, xbmc, mediaportal. If you can build a pc you can build an HTPC and the software solutions out already make it very easy.

That is all a matter of opinion. windows media center is very basic, things like xbmc, mediaportal have a lot of eye candy and pop depending on the skin you choose. And being free and run on a pc you could download them and run and test them on your normal pc before you decide to build an htpc.
