No such thing as a bug free player...

However, great to see another affordable player being added to the mix, especially Mede8er which seems to be one of the few bright spots in the media player market currently

Damian

Just wish Mede8er would offer proper jukebox support for TV shows and we'd be set. But, agree they're doing better with 3D and support compared to others.

Yup, I would have set my dad up with one if it had proper tv show support. Instead I am giving him my PCH A300 (uh oh... will have to tell him that I am not customer support lol)

I wonder where this leaves their 1185 chipset players. If this truly is at $130 US, which I find hard to believe, then their lowest priced 1185 player currently at $180 for the 450X2 is going to take a nosedive in price shortly along with the 500X2.

Does mede8er not use yamj anymore for making the jukebox? I would figure it would have same tv support as any yamj skin can do

It is not yamj in that sense. It uses YAMJ to process / gather movie metadata, but that is it (the database you access on the Mede8er is a mede8er product, not YAMJ)

So yamj runs and gathers the information and stores it in a db? on the mede8er then they have a skin that reads that? Can you customize the skin, seems if you have yamj running the backend the front end should not be hard to modify, or just no one digging into it that much?

YAMJ is actually not creating the db. YAMJ is just used to create the nfo and get the poster/backdrop (that is where is gets a little confusing if you are a YAMJ user from PCH). Mede8er then uses that information to create the db itself. In fact, you don't even need to use YAMJ, you can use other metadata tools (ThumbGen, My Movies, etc...)

Damian

Yes. I actually spoke to Accident to see if he was interested in digging in to, seeing if he could provide support, not sure if it went anywhere.

The MED600X3D has landed.

damm is very small, its bigger than Apple TV but not much.

here comparing the size with a iphone4

probably is the same size of the med450x2 but without the internal hard drive, but now 1186 chipset 3D

ive looked through the ventilation holes and theres plenty of space inside, im sure will be a very cooled unit.

I think I saw previously that the 600x won't be ready to ship until sometime in January. If so, I guess you are a beta tester? I've been eyeing the 1000x and the A-400, but at this point the 1000x seems to be more stable for sure. But then I saw the 600x soon after and it looks to be what I'm looking into. The internal HDD does not bother me since I can just plug a external to the device.

I noticed that some users may add an SSD to their 1000x or A-400 to make it boot up faster, and load the menu or other items quicker. Does this actually help the loading that much faster? I'm new to all of this and don't really know about nmj or any of that stuff. I just read a few posts here and there and it seems you have to download some apps to allow you to pull the box art, movie details, etc. for your movies. So I guess that would be the other benefit of pulling info faster on the 1000x vs the 600x?

Thanks.

My experience and opinion about the MED600X3D

It still a few weeks to christmas, but i cant denied, that I'm felling a like little kid opening a earlier christmas present that my Mom hide in closet....

When i received the box from dhl, i already had an idea what to expect from this player, because a few months back, i made contact with is older brother the med1000x3d.
The package and the contents all arrive well, theres 2 white sponges getting everything vey thight inside the box.

HARDWARE

i open the box and made a quick inspection to the 600x3D... its black smile.gif.. well its light , looks very well built, its about twice the size of a apple tv3, it has no sighs of scratches, the design is very simple it has some serial number on the back, along with mede8er printed words from Sanjy electronics.

heres the some pictures out of the box

on the left side it has 2 x usb ports 2.0 and a card slot , does two ports (480mbps) can handle up to 3TB hard drives.

on the back theres a hdmi 1.4, a optical audio out port ,input power 12v, Component Video out (YPbPr) Composite Video/ Stereo RCA out , ethernet port and a hard lock.

inside the box, there is a hdmi cable, batteries, remote control, power plug adapter us/uk/eu , manual , composite cables, and a usb cable 2.0

also at a extra cost, theres a mede8er RF keyboard very handy if you browsing, it comes with a mini usb to usb to directly connect to med600x3d or plug the usb RF conector, im looking forward to try it later.

it comes with black remote, side-by.side with med1000x3d remote, they are exactly the same, both are backlit

heres some pictures with med1000x3d and med600x3d side by side

can is big brother smoke/eat the newest media on the block ? we gone see about that... smile.gif

SETTINGS AND JUKEBOX

when we plug it , theres 1, 2, 3 steps to configurate, time zone, hour and date, and ip address ( i recommend to use fix ip address if you going streaming route)

Before we pass to watch movie/music content, its recommend to configurate some quick settings that don't come by default, for a better playback experience.

go to settings > system and I put the following settings

in audio choose this configuration if you have av receiver with hdmi port

if you have the med600x3d directly to tv using the hdmi cable or the optical connect to av receiver without hdmi port, the settings probably are something like this (haven´t tested )

audio
hdmi output - auto or downmix 2ch
spdif output - downmix 2ch
spdid passthrough( if is connect to av receiver without hdmi ports )
force ac3....... on
surround sound - ac3/dts 5.1 ou don't care
lips sync auto

in video this are the settings i had better results in med1000X3D, no frame skips or bad interpolation of the video, all nice and smooth, also theres the screen size option to adjust the screen in correct position

network settings, if you use the M8 remote for the ipad or iPhone leave the web remote on

Misc settings

FILES

This is the aspect of the file manager view and its possible to choose 5 custom views
Since almost all my library is on NAS synology , I'm using Samba or NFS to streaming my BD iso movies, I've tried some MKV with UPNP with good results.

this is my files during the NAS access, the file video is where all my movies are .

the jukebox created with duneX and dunexTOmede8er for mac, for pc theres a similar version called Y2M

Its possible to search the library using the XML search function

its also possible to create a music jukebox, but the med600x3d/med1000x3d is not my dedicated device for music and i haven't dedicated too much attention creating a jukebox for music.

JUKEBOX TUTORIALS

WINDOWS

To create a movie jukebox to use with med8er players theres a detailed tutorial here and for music is also here and help and support in mede8erforum.

The files will be ended to something like this .

MAC

for mac users you can use duneX and duneX2med8er all programs are free to download

duneX download and duneX2mede8er more information in mede8erforum

VIDEO STREAMING / HARD DRIVE PERFORMANCE

heres some shots of the possible options showed during the film, playing the blu-ray Adele live at royal albert hall its a 30fps concert, ( ripped with dvdfab to iso ) the med600x3d played at 29,99 fps , smooth video and dts-hd master audio with no problems in the TV or in projector.

On the avatar 3D it also played very well from external hard drive with no issues , was perfect streaming over NFS (using windows home server ) with no drops in video or audio for about 45 minutes, in samba (using ds412+ ) i had a few audio drops due the high bitraite and the limitation of samba to 90mbps.
i also tried a mkv version of avatar using makemkv and played with no issues using UPNP protocol.

the subtitles also worked well, the 3D has no signs of ghosting or crosstalk, the video was very smooth.

in Battle of los angeles and about 100 BD other movies 2D and 3D running quick 5 minutes tests , i had no problems in any protocol, UPNP, NFS, SAMBA or External hard drive, video and audio passed with distinction.

some settings in video menu

here is a option to choose the playlist, for movies like harry potter 2 and cop out , and other movies version that have comment´s director with longest playlist,

otption for any 3D movies to be played in 2D

more settings during 3D playback

I was expecting a similar playback experience, streaming/ hard drive with this player since it uses the same realtek chipset 1186 and similar specs along and the same firmware of the med1000X3D.
And im happy to say it did, using the same hardware configuration , and same home cinema setup, i couldnt distinguish which one was it, in different hdmi ports from the onkyo tx-nr 609.
ive used the epson projector TW6000 to try to see differences in video, but theres non that is noticeable to naked eye.

FRAMERATE

A question that is always raised to realtek players is the framerate of the movie, its a well none bug with plenty of reports around the web .

The info in my projector shows the framerate in both media players 23,99hz in 2D and 3D, but i haven´t notice any skip issue every 40 seconds, not in a 90inch screen or in a 40inch led samsung.

A Few weeks back the mede8er forum has provided a new RAW SDK for this players with a small voluntary group to make some tests , in my tests the med1000x3d with all type of files, and hd audio the player showed the correct framerate of 23,97 in 2D and 3D
I tried the motion bars test and showed the correct framerate of 23,97 and 59,93 in the projector.

when they merge the code in the new SDK, i believe this will be a killer player (i think already is )

So far since september 2012 , when i bought the x3, i never seen no one from mede8er forums denying any help, or denying a fix , or helping with work around solution.

Just a few tests files i try and worked well

Final Conclusion:

im my opinion the Med600x3d is a real bargain, 2D and 3D, with a very solid and stable firmware, during the longs hours ive tested it didnt crash once, never get hot, or any signs of slow down, the remote is responsive enough and the gui is easy to navigate.
This is not a half- baked player like ive seen reporting in last few days from other brands , but a finish product, ready to use in any home cinema.
In europe the mede8er is giving 5 years hardware guarantee for this players, that tells a lot how much they trust in their make.

the question now is..... does it worth to pay the extra buck and get the med1000X3D ?
in my personnel opinion.

-If you streaming NO
-If your on budget NO
-if you using external /internal YES
-if you using coaxial YES
-If you using External IR Jack YES

PROS

Price
3D
Streaming performance
Solid Built
smooth playback
GUI user friendly
jukebox
it has read every type of format i had available.

CONS

doesn´t play ALAC (lossless)
forced subtitles not supported (not a issue for non-native english )

i like to buy this player for myt brother. he has all the one piece episodes as an mp4 file with AAC-SBR audio inside. it does not play on his PS3. so i wonder if it will play on this media player. if so i like to buy it.

you have any idea if it will play the files with AAC-SBR files?

thanks in advance and good luck with your player smile.gif

Since it doesn't support forced subtitles, does that mean when a part of a movie is supposed to show a foreign language like an alien language or something else, that the player will not do so? Does the 1000X have the same issue? Also, I assume a firmware update would be able to correct the issue at a later time?

Thanks,

Thanks,

That's correct. I hope they can do that via firmware, but it never happened with their older 1185 players.

UI skin packs right? Not for the jukebox?
