@vikgrao: I'm not sure what the long term plan is going to be yet. I started the project as a fun side project for myself and find myself coding more and more on it. There have been quite a few people reaching out to me about it though. I want to get the bugs hashed out and then I will decide where to take the project. What would you guys like to see? I love hearing your feedback

I hope you keep up with it as IMHO you could really have something a lot of people would use.

What interests me it the integration of VLC for file playback. I'm a long time user of My Movies, but it hands off playback to either Windows or other players like PowerDVD. This leads to issues with codecs, format issues, etc.

IMDB does not have an API for their content but there are a few scrapers. My program uses a few other sources for information but should have all the same info as IMDB. I am working on trailers now but haven't decided how I want to handle it. I am trying out a few different ways and I'll post a video when I get it integrated with the app. I am also thinking of adding Rotten Tomatoes reviews as they have an API for their content. If there are any other features you guys think would be cool let me know. Thanks for the feedback.

How will you store the metadata?

One thing that may be helpful for some, including myself, are content filters. I like my kids having access to their content, but would rather not them watching the Exorcist yet at ages 7 & 9. Rather they wait until 10 or 11. wink.gif

This is already a feature I have thought of. I plan on implementing the child remote. So whenever they use their remote it will only allow them to select the movies you choose is acceptable for them. The data will be stored in a database so sorting becomes quick and easy!

Sorry I haven't made a post in a while. The clone is starting to get a lot more reliable. I use it as my media server now, recording crashes and such so I can fix them. It's currently on the back-burner as I have started to build a very simple, diy smart home. All of my free time focus has been on that as opposed to the kscape clone, although I do plan on getting back to it shortly after my current project goes to beta. I will inform you when I start back up with it.

Hey everyone,

Back at work on the project after quite a bit of time off. It took 3 hours or so just to look through all the souce code and get familiar with everything I was doing smile.gif. I have listed out a few things I would like to tackle.

1. New scrolling. I don't like the way the scrolling works (I just kind of hacked it together) because I can't scroll forever while holding up, down, right or left. Being able to scroll infinitely up, down, left and right has been the trickiest part of building this project. I have developed a new algorithm on my whiteboard that I think will be much smoother. Now I just need to build a new animations library for it.

2. Because the new animations library will be much more efficient, I am going to have to change the way covers reorder because it will be broken afterwards. So that will be step 2. If I can get those things down I will be very happy with the product and use it a lot more on a daily bases.

3. 2-way remote control. Right now it is really basic arrow keys that control the app, but nothing passed back to the app. I don't have a lot of iOS development skills so I take it this will be the hardest part. Hopefully I can have a new update soon for everyone.

Is there anyway to try out your auto ripping program? I currently use anydvd to rip my DVD's and Blu-Ray to hard disk and then hand brake to rip the main feture or each episode of a tv show. Is this something your program does or can do?

Currently it is implemented inside my Kscape project and not standalone. Because of copyright laws, I can't distribute the program as of now. I am debating making tutorial series to create your own however. It's going to just depend on my available time. I currently use DVDFab and handbrake in my project. I have an email out to DVDFab about distributing the free version of their software so we will see where that goes. Hopefully they won't mind and I can distribute it to anyone who wants it.

Either way would be cool. I do know some basic vb and vc++. So how does your auto rip software work. Insert disc and collect meta data and main feature or tv episode's chapter and send it to handbrake?

So far it does not fully work for TV Shows. I'm still working on this. For movies it's as simple as, insert movie and click rip. It will collect all metadata for you and be ready to go the second it finishes.

Hello guys,

I finally got around to recording a new video. It's kind of like 1 step forward and 4 steps back right now so bare with me. I completely re-wrote the animation library allowing for ultra smooth and fast scrolling. I can now just hold an arrow key and scroll quickly through my 1000 movies.

I also started on a new DVD ripping program implemented inside my clone. It's fully working for Movies but unfortunately TV shows does not work (and I'm not sure it will ever fully work). But anyways let me know what you think.

Hey Everyone,

I have a few things done and updated a new video for my clone. Currently working on a very lightweight embedded OS to run the application and that's consuming the most of my time. Still working on TV show integration. That's my next goal to get done.

Since last time:
*Better animations (mainly when playing and closing movies)
*Remote control support (It doesn't show it on the video but it's being controlled by two remotes, Children and Regular)
*Child view. When any button is pushed on children remote it switches to child view. Currently I just chose a bunch of G and PG movies.

Let me know what you guys think,
Andrew

I specifically logged onto AVS tonight to see if there had been movement on your work. Glad to see you're back at it. Looks great!

Like others have said, there's plenty here willing to help you beta test some. smile.gif
