Bought a Denon 1613 AVR recently and need to redesign how i stream videos. I also want to preserve HD audio from the source to the AVR, which is a new goal and might be beyond my TV and BD player's abilities.
I formerly was streaming from media server(Tversity) directly to my samsung LNC670 TV and it was happy with mp4, avi, mkv, m2ts files as long as they had ac3 or AAC encoded audio streams. (HD audio was down-converted on the fly but the TV could not sustain smooth playback)
The problem is my TV does not have an ARC on its HDMI connection so now it does not give me any audio acting as the DMP.
When I try to use my BD player as the DMP I get endless 'format not supported' messages. Package deal from Best Buy with the TV. I also have a black xbox 360 but prefer not to use it as the DMP.
The solutions I can think of are:
1)Optical audio out from the TV to the AVR and hope for both HD audio passthru and no delay issues.
2)Newer BD player capable of streaming HD audio
3)Roku or similar DMP capable of streaming HD audio
Before I spend any money- does anyone have any advice?
