Cody at Box Top Theatre told me he will receive the first batch tommow, Thursday 18 July. I should have it very soon. Csn't wait to try it out. I may order a second and cancel my cable tv subscription. I just hope I can watch live sports, Nascar, F1 Racing. Just dowloaded the User Manual from the site below. Looks very promising. Also it mentions an HDMI cable is provided. I was about to go out and buy one, saved myself a few bucks lol

But when was the last time that a media-streamer worked as advertised when first released? Ever?

The specs look good and the price is right. But I would hold out for the reviews, having been burned many times before.

We are a jaded lot. I'll certainly be in "wait and see" mode. After all, the Boxee Box had HD audio "fixed" several times that I know of. And also claimed a future Hulu Plus app at launch!

Maybe, but the fact that it can't do better than 720p discourages many of us from even trying it.

XBMC has been ported to the Boxee Box
http://www.reddit.com/r/boxee/comments/1lfuax/xbmc_has_been_ported_to_the_boxee_box/

You can get the latest builds from http://devil-strike.com

You will need to install Boxee+ http://boxeeplus.com first to get telnet access on the Boxee Box. What I did is copy both Boxee+ and XBMC on the same SD card.

Dear All,

I have had my Boxee Box for 4 years, and I still love it. We ,also, have a couple of rokus which I like very well, but the Boxee Box is still my favorite. I would urge anyone who is willing, to update to the Boxeeplus and maybe xmbc as advised here. I did not update to xbmc yet. I added Bartside repo which is a 3rd party repo which added navi-x.That is a very lucrative addition to the box.

I may add a wireless keyboard to this which for me would be an improvement over the little remote. The little supplied remote is good , but for me typing on a larger keyboard would be easier, faster and less limited.  If there is something out there that matches or beats this device I would love to know about it.

May the Blessings Be.

Any updates on how this runs for you? Looking at replacing my boxee box, as even with XMBC on my boxee, it can not play DTS-HD and still stutters a lot playing 1080p MKV's. Looking at Little Box Box, or Dune HD. All my MKVs are on my Synology DS213 (Which doesn't have the processor to transcode PLEX).

If you really want a maintenance free set top box with a fast UI, Roku 3 is the way to go. That being said an HTPC of one kind or another is a strong compliment to it for storing your media as well as some kind of media server like Plex. You can skip the HTPC if you have a NAS that will run Plex server.

A note on XBMC. I just set up a new Raspberri Pi running XBMC and while far from maintenance free it does things other media centers will not. The latest revision of OpenElec runs smoothly with a little tweaking. I realize this is not your end goal but XBMC is very much a media center worth having in your corner. It is a lot of work to set up but it does things others will not. Plex is based on XBMC and is a good second choice with the nice option of streaming to all devices on your network.

Like I mentioned, unfortunately my NAS won't run Plex Server and transcribe the files. I had a roku 3, but due to my NAS not transcribing the MKV files, I returned the Roku 3

That's really too bad because you could have used any laptop or desktop and installed Plex and have it running in the background.

I replaced boxee with Med800x3d. There are pros/cons to it, but overall I'm happy.
Not sure what your issue with DTS hd and boxee is? I had no problems bit streaming to my pioneer. The pioneer even states "DTS HD MA"

DTS-HD doesn't work with boxee running xbmc

How did you decide on a Med800x3d? Never heard of it before and don't see many reviews for that unit. What are some of the cons you've experienced?
