I am really looking at getting the PIVOS XIOS DS because I can put full XBMC on it.

However some mkv files I have are 30gb in size...

I plan on getting an external hard drive (powered by the wall) to put movies on and transfer OVER USB.

I noticed this player only has USB 2.0

will I have ANY issues streaming over USB 2.0? I don't want any buffering at all once the movie has started.

USB2 is more than enough.

You will also need a micro sdcard for XBMC to save it's data too if using the media library as the internal storage is too small.

I was reading some reviews on this Pivos Xios DS

and it has an ARM 9 processor? is that even fast enough to run XBMC on?

kind of concerned about the speed now

Yes it is fast enough, the Raspberry Pi even has a slower Arm 6 class processor.

Video decoding is not done on the CPU it is done via dedicated hardware video decoders present in the chipset. The Xios is not as fast as a PC running XBMC but it is closest to the AppleTV2 version of XBMC but with more media support.
