I want to set up an HTPC for my parents, but they run DirectTV. I have set up a number of systems based on cableCARD, but this will be my first satellite-based system.

Is there an interface for the directTV signal for HTPC? I assume you cant just connect the coaxial to a tuner card and have it fire right up, correct?

What options do I have for running WMC with DirectTV?

Thanks!

AFAIK, no. There is no satellite equivalent of a PC cable-card tuner. Satellite is the most closed of the pay-TV options. What comes out of a satellite coax is enough voltage to fry any consumer product you plug it into.

I don't think you have any.

The method that I use, is the Hauppauge HD-PVR. It does work with windows 7 and directv. You install it between your directv receiver and your tv.

I thought of that, but he was asking about using WMC so the HTPC would be like a DVR. AFAIK, WMC can't interface with or control an HD-PVR.

Well that's cool. Thanks for the link.
But in his case, what will he do for a guide? Does WMC supply a sat guide?

This is interesting. I'll have to read the link provided and learn more. I've been reading through posts, jealous anew of those with cable. I have a Dish Network subscription and understood that there was no possibility of integrating satellite TV with HTPC. If I can similarly set up a PVR to match what I've done for ATSC broadcasts I'll switch to DirecTV.
