I am thinking of buying an inexpensive desktop computer running Windows 8 to stream media to my Tivo. The only apps I use are Streambaby and pytivo.

I currently am near capacity using an LX195 running WHS and would like to replace.

Is the LX195 that much more power efficient than many of today's desktops which don't appear to be EnergyStar compliant? (at least in the $300-$400 range at Best Buy)

Are here any other drawbacks I may be missing here?

I would keep the desktop on all of the time.

Please let me know. Thanks.

If you stay with a lower end PC, it won't draw much more power than your LX195. If streaming video is your only use for it, maybe you want to look into a NAS instead.

EnergyStar got into trouble a few years back with fraud so I wouldn't put too much stock into their ratings.

I was considering a NAS drive. However, I am thinking a windows desktop could do other things for me like torrents should I need decide to use that in future. The other issue with NAS is that I don't know how to use LINUX.

I was thinking a low end desktop would be similar to the LX195 but how can I compare the power usage. That's what I am trying to determine.
